Case or Stand Where do you keep your basses?

In my living room, who needs a couch for sitting anyway!

I have a five station stand that I keep my five current faves in. If one isn't getting played, it goes into the case and another fills the spot. They get rotated around that way and I usually have something on hand to fill my whim at the time. With this type of setup, it's easy to know what instruments are your true keepers as you are constantly going to them regardless of the company they keep. It's also easy to know which ones you can live without because they never stay on the stand very long.

Normally I leave my basses in their cases unless it is the home work horses that are always on a stand and ready to rock at any given moment. I have two that are in two different location in my house one upstairs and the other down either way they are a my beck and call. They are not basses I gig with normally they are the kick around inexpensive ones that get the job done RTS

On a Warwick Rockstand - Ric, Ray, 4 Jazz basses, P bass.

On a separate stand - Stagg 5 string.

In a bag and ready to go - cheapo Stagg 4 string.

Hanging on the wall - Tanglewood ABG (and a Freshman acoustic guitar I can't play).

In their cases - another guitar that I can't play and a Palatino EUB that I don't play often enough.

These days I am on the road more then at home so Mostly In a case in the trailer.
when I am home I am mostly writing/demoing or in the studio so I leave em out on stands.
On the rare occasion I get a vacation, in the case at home. Except one cheaper one I will take with me

I've kept most stuff out over the years, but I would recommend against it. The majority of dings and stuff have come from crap totally unrelated to playing... People dropping stuff... Vacuum cords... When stuff gets left out, it just gets messed up. Plus, the temps stay more even in the case day to day.

Despite what I stated above about keeping mine on a rack, Xray's right. The only real hack on any of my basses happened when I hit a good loud low B. My wife bought me a really cool set of metal sculptures of a band. They were sitting on a shelf and the vibration made it tumble and hit my fretless. Left this ugly gouge right on the upper waist... :bawl:

The temp issue is my concern I guess. Well that and now physical damage thanks to Engine207's post  However, looks like I am pretty good company with stand use. Thanks to everyone for posting.
