In various threads, I've seen references to changes in the Ric's neck profile over the years - some have been described as thicker (bats) others have been described as thinner. It's hard to tell, though, when those changes occurred. Are there specific model years that had the thicker/thinner necks? If so, any insight you can provide as to what years have what type of neck would be greatly appreciated. I'm Gas'ing for a Ric, but don't come across them very often, so it's hard to compare. Thanks a lot for your help.
my mid 2007 neck is skinny since very late 2008 the neck became more meaty again. i prefer a thicker neck, but try to find a rick in germany for a reasonable price...
It's not easy, alot of times both neck profiles were made at the same time. It just varies. But take comfort in the fact that whether it's a skinny neck, or slightly less skinny, there's virtually no taper, either way. So, in essence, they're all quite comfy to play.
I have on 07, and I am not sure which of the neck profiles it is, but width wise it feels similar to a P bass at the nut. Like RickenBoogie said, it has almost no taper though, and its defintely not a p bass neck radius, so the overall feel of the neck is not P bass like at all. I have played a number of Rics, and they all felt great to me. No matter which one you find, they are unique feeling necks.
