Changing the Gain on Amp when changing strings?

I had to increase the gain and volume on my amp after I switched from TI's to Pyramid's recently (to get to a comparable volume). I found this a bit odd but it seems totally reasonable. Some strings are more magnetic than others and thus the current they create is stronger or lesser than others. Have you experienced this before? I change strings to rarely that I have little experience.

Yes and probably EQ as well. But usually the opposite for me. I'd have to dial everything BACK after getting new strings.
I used to use cheap strings as long as I possibly could. To the point they were completely dead, even breaking. Then, new bright round wounds, plus an excessive EQ compensating for the previous lack of high end would make it sound like a completely different instrument.

Changing practically anything in your setup can lead to changes in practically any other part of your setup. With the strings alone, it is possible that the actual or perceived volume changed due to EQ differences between the two sets of strings, a change in action or the strings' height above the pickups, difference in tension between the strings, etc.
