OK--here's the situation.
At my (small, liberal arts, Christian) college, our chapel bass was stolen. And now we're looking to replace and I was asked to come along. Most of the music we play is Contemporary Christian/rock style. Here is the lowdown:
Any suggestions on what to get? We're going to guitar center in the next few weeks to pick one out.

- old bass was a mid-90s green Fender PJ
- budget: $500 or less
- probably passive, so we don't have to worry about batteries and battery life
