Bro should have worn a wig to fit in.
What song did he overplay on?Oh that guy. What band is he in? What song did he play on?
I don’t see anything wrong with letting the OP know about the search function. ???Lame and unnecessary
Scanned the first 10 pages of this forum and did not find a mention of Charles Berthoud. So...mentioning him now. Young bassist with a master of the bass. You should know Charles Berthoud.
Dude’s awesome. Most of his videos are absolute masterclasses in technique and phrasing.
Exactly. I 1000% agree but I didn’t know how to put my thoughts into words. Because he is truly talented. That guy is sooo incredible at bass guitar. Undeniable!
I was thinking the other day.. if I could ask the 16 year old version of myself this question:
You can either listen to Joe Satriani’s Surfin’ with the Alien OR the entire Al Green catalog for the rest of your life. What do you choose? That dumb kid would have chosen the former.
Charles is fantastic but I can’t get any joy out of listening to him play. He’s so surgical/chops oriented. Give me Robbie Shakespeare, Pino Palladino, Chuck Rainey, Ray Brown, etc. I’m not sure if there’s a point to this rant besides listen to what your ears tell you and enjoy doing what you do. Charles may offer a lot in the way of inspiration to players but little in the realm of real world song application for gigging bass players. He’s definitely a 1% player and without a doubt at the top of his class.
I keep wanting to ask "Yeah, but can he function in a band" and then I realize that he has just toured successfully, doing exactly the same as in his YT videos, but with a band. So there is as market for his style. It's not me, but it exists. He’s definitely a 1% player and without a doubt at the top of his class.
SameYo-Yo Ma plays a lot of solo pieces but I don’t listen to them because they aren’t in a band context. Plus they’re mostly covers.
So musical success, great art, is defined by whether there is a market for it, to you?I keep wanting to ask "Yeah, but can he function in a band" and then I realize that he has just toured successfully, doing exactly the same as in his YT videos, but with a band. So there is as market for his style. It's not me, but it exists.
At least he’s not as annoying as Davie504 or Sapko
BassBuzz also has a nonzero information content. Davie, Sapko, Ginger: purely for entertainment value. If you skip them you don't miss anything. The only bass YouTuber that does not fill me with impotent rage is Nate Navarro. He's nice and his content is actually useful.
I LOVE both of them for the contrived snarkAt least he’s not as annoying as Davie504 or Sapko
