I honestly love everything about this. Killing band, everybody’s tone and groove is impeccable, and just the right amount of 70s cheese that says let’s make love on a boat with junk that we’ve never ever considered shaving.

Geismann kills it there, but to my ears he went from 0-60 a bit too fast. He was playing the melody at the beginning of his solo and then suddenly he was playing rapid fire 32nd notes with nothing in between.

I believe that sax player is Gerry Niewood. Much later than this, in 2009, he and Coleman Mellett, who was then the guitarist in this band, died in a plane crash on their way to a gig. Very sad. Mellett’s younger brother is a professional friend of mine.

No, that's Chris Vadala. Niewood was the previous sax player in Mangione's band.

I know Chuck Mangione can be a bit polarizing as his later career was mostly pop jazz, but check out Charles Meeks absolutely killing it on his Stingray on "Feels So Good". I'm not a pop jazz fan, but I figured it out and it is really a fun one.

Always preferred a Stingray thru a tweeterless cabinet. As it should be. Takes away that obnoxious zing! YMMV

That is some of the best StingRay tone I’ve ever heard. Exactly what my ears I fell in love with as a young girl. Punchy, smooth, warm, while sitting perfectly in the mix and punching you in your face and chest.

Agreed it’s a great tone. It’s not the glassy aggressive sound some get with their Rays. Full and punchy.

Charles Me-Man Meeks was the inspiration for my buying my '79 MM Sabre in '79. Fell in love with that tone and luckily, able to get that on the Sabre. Saw them in concert in 1980. Don't forget James Bradley Jr on drums. Wonderful drummer. He had about 1/3 of the kit in that video that he normally plays.
