Hi all,
I have a charvel star 4b in black which I am looking to re-home.. I thought this would be a good place to start before she goes up on ebay. The guitar is in Hampshire and I am open to offers.. Pics available on request of course..

I've recently joined the ranks with the purchase of an '87 Charvel 1B in red with maple fret-board. (BTW, is there an official designation for the red color? I've heard it called Ferrari red, but would like to know the correct name if there is one.) Real nice condition and included the original tweed case. I'm going through it now detailing and making adjustments to make everything to my liking.

New strings are in order. I wanted to see what you guys like and use on this type bass, so please share your experiences and recommendations to guide me in my decision. When all is said and done, I'll post pics. :cool:

wow this thread was dead cause everyone is posting in the jackson thread lately.

I have way too many basses to spend 40-50bucks each on strings. I use 5dollar a pack strings in bulk and change them when needed. On my main bass which gets used 2-3 times a week they last for months. Bright, clanky, and last a long time for 4-5bucks.

oh, no most of those folks are subbed to this thread also.
and for sizes? depends on if you like EADG, or DGCF, or do the CGCF or DADG droptune thing.

Mine and flats? not for the music I play. It has to be clanky for me to be happy. Others will like what they like naturally, it don't matter what company made it.

usually 40-90 for the EADG and 45-105 and for my DGCF bass? I will say that the maple FB is different than the rosewood units I have that are pretty much the same thing with a j-pickup.

Charvel only did the 2B in lefty so above is:
RED 1987 2b
BLACK 1989 2b

The middle bass is a custom job I had made myself.I gutted an old banged up 2B and had a nice new body built. I had body made to the spec of the orignal 80s king V, but boosted up to bass size.Now to find a case!

wow another lefty player and the KVfaker is very nice!! :)
ya the 2b was the only lefty model...lol but both of your 2bs are 88s. They only made em for one run, I still have 2 blacks and a white one.
The rare one to find is the futura - the only other lefty production I ever saw them make. I have seen a buch of these in many years, but never another model in lefty. The guitar players got a lot more years worth of choices but always a Dinkey.

My bass has an r on the headstock and the tm on the neckplate. The sn starts 248xxx. Im 99% sure the bass is all original, no replaced parts. The neckplate also has a gasket, which wasnt started until 87 either. Thats why I went with 87 as the probable year. It might have been built at the end of the year, with mixed parts from new and old factory stock. Im not sure of what the policy was at the Japan factory regarding this. Interesting enough to me though.
