... just a quick scan of Portland and Eugene CL in your price range ... I was assuming that you meant < $300 for the entire rig, not just a head and then needing a cab ... :)

This is awesome! Thanks! You assumed correctly.
Thanks you guys! It's weird, joining a new group. Been playing with essentially the same people for ten years and my current line up for three. (Not quitting on those guys, just finding something to do while I'm at school. ) so It's something that's really foreign to me. Excited to get some new gear though, even if it is cheap. Thanks again

new situations always help us to grow and expand .. even if they are uncomfortable ... I am playing live shows for a duo that has an all original 'Inspirational Country' CD coming out ... and it is a stretch for sure .. a couple Johnny Cash covers on request is the only country I ever played ... in 40+ years ... enjoy your new gig and gear ... hope you have a strong back !! ... :)

Peavey and gk for sure: I've been playing these brands for years. Hartke was also mentionned and can be found for dirt cheap. Some ole Trace heads can also be had for very little money (the SS ones obviously) and they rate their amps conservatively.

Used Peaveys are cheap. I see Mark IV's for under $100. Old TKO's (the ones with the graphic EQ's) are around $150. Old Combo 300's are excellent...heavy but excellent. Put a piezo tweeter (or better) in a Combo 300, TKO or TNT and you'll update the amp up to the 1990's.

Many of the 80's Peaveys work fine, but at that age the main filter caps should be changed. Modern caps are smaller, so more capacitance can be easily added which will improve the headroom. Not expensive at all if you can do it yourself. Four solder connections and away you go.
