Hi, I'm gonna get m next bass soon but i can't really decide on some. I only have a $120 budget so if you have and suggestions please say so. Also, i was looking at the SX guitars from RondoMusic.com but I'm still not entireley sure.
Thanks,

Fender Squier Precision from your local pawn shop. Should run $125ish. I see them all the time when looking for other "treasures".

Since you are saying you are gonna buy your 'next bass' I'm assuming you already have one. In that case I'd recommend saving your pennies a little while longer. $120 is even limiting yourself in what SX basses you can afford. Since you already have one, the only reason not to hold off is a little GAS, but you'll be better off in the long run.

Your profile says you've got a starter bass. For $120, you're still going to have a starter bass.

If what you have isn't working for you, and you've only got $120 to work with, you might try:

- save until you really have enough for a better bass
- have your bass professionally set up
- get a new set of strings
- replace the pickups
- get a better amp
- take lessons

Depending on your equipment and situation, some of the above might be a better use of that money than replacing your bass.

3 years ago my wife bought me a Vinci at Sears for $99. (I played high end instruments in the 80's but fell away from it and started messing around again with a Fender acoustic 4 years ago) I thought it was OK to mess around with and have been playing ever since. Then I found this website and thought I'd check out other "entry level" basses. Tried SX, tried Squier, tried Yamaha, tried Dean, and wasn't too excited about them. I think if I do replace the Vinci it will have to be with a Fender but can't justify the $$$ right now. Instead of getting opinions of other people, go out and try the different models out for yourself. I'm not going to second guess anyones knowledge about basses, but what is right for one person may be wrong for another. Look at Dean, Squier, and others in your price range, don't just go by others' opinions.

I just bought an Aria SB-40 fretless which is cheaper than the Squire fretless. I much preferred it to the Squire but someone with a different hand size or playing style might much prefer the Squire. Either way I am amazed at how good a cheap guitar can be. This Aria is a perfect shape and weight for me. Anyway, Aria is another brand worth trying.
