CHEAP BASSES SUCK!!!!

I don't buy to invest. I buy to play. My attitude has always been, why pay $1500 for something I can pay $800 for. And, knowing my shopping habits, I can turn around and sell it for $1,000 when my eye catches something else.

My experience
Bought 69 Pbass for $150, sold $350
Bought 76 Tbird for $550, sold, $750
Bought 66 Jazz for $400, sold for $700
Bought 73 Pbass for $350, sold for $550
Bought 82 Pbass for $400, sold for $700
Bought 95 G&L Climas new for $350. Sold for $800

All of them great basses. I can't see how much better they would have been as basses if they were new, aside from price difference. What's the added value?

I have 2 keepers: the 75 fretless P and the Sadowsky. I still have my Blade and may hang onto it.

It was never a conscious decision to shop like this. I just found that I could continually upgrade my gear for minimal cost out of pocket. Now, at my ripe old age, I can afford anything I want, but I'm so trained in this approach that it's part of the fun.

I'll stick my neck out and say that there are a lot of guys like m on TB who approach it the same way.

What I mean is why buy a cheaper bass if you change basses like underwear?the resale is horriable..I have a mustang reissue that are selling new for $750.00 with hsc.And The only offer I have been getting is 300.00...At least the American basses bring more resale,so that is all I will buy for now on...You guys with the cheap sx bass and Mexican stuff must really lose your asses.....

First of all, this thread is completely pointless. If you have an opinion like this you'd best just keep it to yourself.

Secondly, I love my $400 Ibanez to death and I play it more than my Stingray.

Thirdly, what about Warwicks? They are expensive as **** new and don't sell for half of what they're worth second hand, same goes for G&L. Expensive doesn't equal great resale. Something to think about.

Not sure I know what you mean, but I paid $109.00 for my SX Precision, not counting $15.00 for the Pick guard, and have been offered $200.00 for it and if it were not my favorite I may have parted with it!

OP needs to start making better purchasing decisions rather than blaming cheap basses.

Every new bass you buy will lose you money. Every used bass you buy over-priced will lose you money. Every used bass you buy at a good price will break even or make you money.

Every bass you buy that you love to play doesn't matter if it makes or loses you money.

Learn to make good decisions and find value in what you like.

I don't own an SX or a Mexican bass, but based on this quote, I would be better off buying either of those than a Mustang Re-issue....resale-wise...thanks for the heads up!!

you've lost 450 bucks on paper with one bass, and you think we can do worse with $109 basses?

Lol.

this is a little off-topic, but I love black/maple, and just bought a Charvel 1B just for that ( and the playability )...yep it was 200, and I was offered 250.00 even before I had it in my posession. regardless of the cost-vs-resale value those who just "buy-to-sell" are always taking a risk.

to the OP ( I assume you never sold/traded a used car either )????

When you buy something new you don't get all of your money out of it, you should know that at least.

I have seen foreign guitars and basses sell for ridiculous amounts of money (ESP Custom shop and some more obscure items). I think its just snobbery as to why American instruments should be worth more than a Japanese instrument. People dont want to accept that sometimes foreign instruments are superior to American made instruments.
