CHEAP BASSES SUCK!!!!

Thanks for that, thats was what I was trying to get,I had a few good suggestions, but mostly I got hostile smart ass comments...But that is what most threads turn into any more. It's hard to find good help these days....:)

I don't know why everyone is taking offense to the OP, he's just having a rant, there's no need to be offended. Offer his some wisdom instead!

you people are killing the OP with hate, but what about you buyers who are getting a good deal ???? --did you forget about that????

BUYERS love it when a item devalues!!!!, and I have some excellent basses in my family that I would NEVER have been able to afford new thanks to the devalued price.

I do quite a bit of research before I actually jump on a purchase, to see how the "market" is doing with that particular unit or brand name for resale value IF I am going to try to turn it around.......just like the stock market it will always be a roller coaster ride.

RANT OVER-

excellent point. Shall I post a CHEAP BASSEZ F'N RUUULE!!!! thread to celebrate the recession?

My "boobs + bass = win" post was dead-serious.

And I think the root of this particular problem [aside from the economy], is that most guys don't want a medium or small-scale bass.

Trolling? Beats me, I thought the fact that equipment lost value when bought was obvious to everyone. Add to that you bought a Mustang which doesn't have the market interest that a Jazz or Precision has and you are really asking for trouble if you are looking to turn it around. The only thing that bothers me is your avatar which is almost too much for me to view at work, so I'll be moving along now.

Well your avatar rocks, so props from me for that! :)

Best advice is to buy used whenever possible, but if you have to buy new (I have on occassion), either buy something that you don't plan to ever sell, or buy something that is cheap enough that you won't take too much of a bath on it (like a Squier or an SX). Don't buy customs (like Carvins) unless you *know* for certain that this is your dream bass and you will never, ever let it go.

Over the last almost two years I have bought and resold three MIA Fender P basses, a Yorkville Bassmaster, a Peavey Max 450 head, and Peavey 410T cabinet, a Little Mark II, a Carvin cabinet, a Peavey guitar amp, a Sansamp BDDI, and possibly a few other items I can't remember at the moment. All were bought used, and all were sold either at a slight profit or a slight loss, depending on shipping charges, duties, etc. All in all, it has been a wash, more or less even steven, and my result now is a fantastic 2008 MIA P bass (bought new), a G-K 700 RB-II (used on TB), and Avatar 112 cab (used on TB), and a Sansamp VT Bass pedal. Oh and a Squier Vintage Modified fretless jazz (bought new and modded).

All in all life is good, except I might be selling the Squier soon, it just doesn't get played these days - then again, I might try just trading it in at the local store. Due to Canadian dollar values rising and falling relative to the US dollar, I paid $349 CDN for it (reg retail was $425 at the time!), six months later the prices dropped to be on par with US prices, so $279 I think, and now they're climbing back up to and over the $300 mark new. I will lose money on it, no question. But its cost has been amortized over several gigs where I played it and nothing else, so I got my money's worth no matter how you look at it. :)

more like "how many people have great players that cost less than 200"

oh wait, that thread has been done...

how about " great playing basses that you found in the garbage"

oh wait, nope that was done also...hmmm....

I have many basses and only ONE of them is worth more than a couple grand ....the rest are EXCELLENT stage players and all of them were cheap ( and I mean FAR less that the price when new )...:D

Fords can't go for as much as a Rolls Royce? Arrr? O_o

And I really cant see buying a bass for investment and solely for resale. Why some bass brands have higher resale then others is beyond me as well. Peaveys are super basses and their resale sucks. Fenders are super basses most of the time and their resale s great after a certain amount of time. Makes no sense really.

One of the best basses I own was bought broken for $50 total with shipping. $22 later it was fixed and I never plan on letting it go. I say never buy a bass with the sole intention of flipping it. Buy it for all time and if you do sell it and take a loss so what. And I probably contributed nothng for this thread LOL Im still not awake...

This thread title sucks! :D

I was suspecting full-on trolling.
I figured that title would get you guys in here...;)
well man 4 pages of responses says different...;)

Fixed your post. You titled your thread to get people riled up and it worked. Don't complain about the nature of the replies--just be careful what you wish for in the future.

OP needs to start making better purchasing decisions rather than blaming cheap basses.

Every new bass you buy will lose you money. Every used bass you buy over-priced will lose you money. Every used bass you buy at a good price will break even or make you money.

Every bass you buy that you love to play doesn't matter if it makes or loses you money.

Learn to make good decisions and find value in what you like.
I completely agree. Everyone has to take responsibility for their buying/selling decisions. It's a particularly bad idea to try and sell something with limited resale value in an environment like this one. Live and learn.

DERECOLA, did you fall out on the wrong side of your bed this morning? ;)

But as far as rants go I'll give it a 8.5 out of 10. :D

GregC, that post of me you quoted: I typed the wrong word.

suspecting should have been expecting
(that's because English isn't my native language and I often mix up words that sound the same)

"I was expecting full-on trolling." (The title made me expect it.)

And with the rest of my post I implied that I didn't thought DERECOLA was trolling.
I classified it as a rant and a lot of winks and smiles toward DERECOLA as to not come off as hostile.

Or do you know what I meant by that? (Sorry, I'm confused.)

I think we agree. The thread title is what is annoying.
Not the OP. Although I don't agree with the original post, I see nothing wrong with it and DERECOLA is allowed to think that way.

Ah, that's cool, man. Hey, your English is better than that of the typical English-speaking posters on here.:D And yes, the thread title is the issue.

Thanks for the compliment. :)
I just wanted to make clear that my post wasn't hostile and in good nature.

Okay, back to the topic at hand:
Why cheap basses suck, lots of exclamation points.

ur... I mean:
"Value of new basses and resale value of them from all price ranges and can basses be an investment?"

Ah, now I see. ^^ that is too long for a thread title.

:)

You guys with the cheap sx bass and Mexican stuff must really lose your asses.....

Well, if by lose your asses, you mean 4 years of dependable gigging service, and , as I was just informed today, a nomination for the Boston Music Awards, (playing an SX the majority of the time I might add), then give me more of that kind of action!! :)

The way to not lose your shirt when buying basses is to shop smart. That can mean going used. Buying basses new that , even if you lose 50%, you're only out $75, or maybe buying a desirable bass , at a discounted price new.

Example 1: I recently bought a brand new 08 Fender American Standard Precision. With some smart shopping, I walked out of the store with it for $800 with the case and all the case candy. I'm fairly certain that I could flip that for at least what I payed for it. Possibly more.

Example 2. Purchased a Epi Jack Casady brand new a couple of years ago for $500. I routinly see these sell used for more than I paid new.

Shop smart, and you can do just fine with certain new instruments.

Back to the SX . :) That ones not for sale at any price, so I don't see myself losing on that one either. ;)
