cheap instrument hanging tech

I went to Lowes today and bought 3 of these:

any instrument with a back leaning headstock will need more wood between it and the wall

My acoustic guitar and 5 string bass would even need more wood (inch to inch and 1/2 instead of a 3/4" piece to hang with said cheap hanger).

Imagine others have diy hangers. Show me the way,
