Cheap PA

There's no shortage of bands using Kustom amps / cabs / powered PA cabs etc... with great success. Not my cup of tea mind you, but they do the job well enough for their owners. Cork sniffers are going to turn their noses up at it. Let them.

Yeah - too much snobbery. I've used a BDDI-21 for a bunch of years, and the thing is bulletproof. The fact that it cost less than a couple sets of strings makes it the best value in my setup. I also use a Behringer Eurolive 1220D wedge monitor - nothing fancy, but it does the job well.

Your only hope, really, is to scour craigslist and see if you can find somebody trying to get rid of a (probably very old) Peavey, Yamaha, Mackie, or equivalent powered mixer and some cabs that hopefully won't be blown all to hell. As others have said that budget is nowhere near realistic, probably even for used gear, but you might get lucky with somebody desperately trying to get rid of something.

Does anybody have any information about the stageworks LG-8. I found a used one for $200. If it is a no go i understand but some reveiws of it on other forums and site seem decent if its just for practice.

Well let us no when you actually get in a band that gets paid. By being a cork sniffer I get paid more for gigs than you ever have or will.

Even if all I ever do is play parties and BBQs that doesn't make me invalid. Heck you could be Less Claypool (I seriously doubt you are anywhere near his league!) for all I care. My experiences at the small gig tight budget end of things make me better qualified to answer the OPs issue, and NOBODY should be censored for using cheap gear. And to wrap it up. BEHRINGER.

I never said I was a star but unlike most of the people who post on this forum I actually get paid fairly well. This week I have 2 gigs that will pay me about $650.00 to $700.00. Next week 2 gigs that pay a total of about $525.00 including a festival main stage slot with Clint Black as the headliner. I must be doing something right whether you agree with me or not. If all you aspire to do is play crappy $300.00 a night bar gigs then a cheap POS PA will do.

Mod, I don't care. Running PAs is not your job. You're a weekend warrior like the rest of us, and you are being a jerk. Clint Black plays with a different local act every week.

Even if you DO know more about PAs, which it doesn't sound like, your job is to educate and encourage, not talk down to people. We all started out on used Peaveys playing bars or in school jazz bands.

For that kind of change you either need a day job or you live in an old school bus and eat cat food...

Yeah I remember Clint Black... Wasn't he relevant when Miley's dad still had a hit?

If I play for beer and fun on cheap gear so what? If I score paid gigs on cheap gear great for me!

Yeah I do have a day job. When were you ever relevant? If you had the chance to open for him you would turn it down?

It is in my band. I have way more PA gear and experience using it than I bet you do. My job isn't to encourage, it is to tell it like I see it. I have been doing the band thing now for 37 years.
