Cheap Practice And Recording Amp

I'm looking to start getting back into bass again and looking for cheap options. I'll mainly be using it to record direct but would like an amp to practice some. I'm in a townhouse so I definitely don't need anything with any oomph. I'm looking around the $100-$150 range. I've come across the Fender Rumble, Acoustic, and Ampeg amps all with an 8" speaker. I don't need anything fancy or loud just something to have fun with. I mainly play hip-hop, funk and R&B type music.

The Fender Rumble line gets a lot of love here at TB. Just be aware that the Rumble 15 and Rumble 25 only have headphone-out jacks which typically deliver a very "hot" signal for recording purposes, and hence may need to attenuated before connecting to your DAW/recording device. You'd need to step up to the Rumble 40 (10" speaker, 40 watts) in order to get a dedicated XLR-out jack.

I have an Ampeg BA 108 v1 which has plenty of power to give me great time at those low volumes. I also have a Rumble 100, and I love it. I would not hesitate getting a Rumble 25 or 40 if I ever needed to replace the Ampeg.

@garp has a good point about line out. My v1 Ampeg has a 1/4” line out, but it looks like the v2 BA Amps don’t have a line out until the 115?? Something to look into. Frankly I’ve never messed around with recording with these amps; I just plug the bass direct into my mAudio usb interface. You could also mic the amp and use any amp you want!
