played wedding last night. limited sound check but lead singer wants more bass. so he gets what he wants. played two one hour sets as there was a disco there too 
mustang sally requested not rehearsed or played as band before. jam it up on stage with free reign from band leader to stretch out on the instruments. got the best cheer from the crowd all night

Haven't been around much lately, but I've had a whole string of gigs this summer. Mostly Chicagoland area park districts and municipal events, but we did open for Sara Evans 4th of July Weekend. Here's a couple shots from the three sets we played on a sweltering Stage at the Wisconsin State Fair this Saturday.

Despite the heat, a good time was had by all. We've played this particular beer garden stage two years ago, but we had a much larger crowd this time. Standing room only for the last two sets, and so many folks were watching from the midway that it was almost a traffic hazard!

My band (a New Wave / Post punk 3 piece) has a very interesting gig coming up.
A friend of mine, who used to be a muso, has turned his hand to movie-making and is directing a comedy-drama-mockumentary.
Part of the script calls for a 'benefit gig' in aid of the protagonist (a washed-up 80's one-hit wonder, making a comeback).
So we are one of 2 bands being filmed for the movie at a club here in Melbourne on Friday.
We also being called on for 'flashback' scenes set in 1978, so we have to dress up for that in an appropriate Art-Punk manner.
It should be a lot of fun, the club will be filled with friends and people keen to be in a movie. Can't wait!

This month my band played Das Awks Fescht(Car Show), Musikfest (Bethlehem PA), The Middlesex County Fair (NJ), The Cicada Festival( Mount Gretna PA) Sands Casino (Bethlehem PA), Coca Cola Park (Minor League Ball Field 10,000 capacity) and finishing up with 2 private parties on the 29th one afternoon one evening.
All of these have been really great, Musikfest even on local cable TV and our 3 hours repeated multiple times!
September is shaping up nicely and we have a BIG show coming up early next year.

I just had my first church gig playing for a healing mass out in Latrobe, PA. It was with a four piece band consisting of piano/vocals, guitar, bass, and vocals/occasional violin. I had never played, or even heard, some of the songs we were playing, so I just played off the sheet as much as possible. Unfortunately now and then I would get into a pattern and stop looking at the sheet to kinda do my own thing with it. That was of course when I missed a couple chord changes. It went okay though besides a few slip ups on my part and a few on the guitarist's. I did learn though that there is not a lot more depressing than setting up at the front of a large church then playing for a crowd of about ten old ladies. I was a little bit disappointed, but still had fun with it.
I'm playing my farewell gigs with my coverband this weekend - bittersweet - so sick and tired of the leader of this group - he's a nice enough guy, but is a horrible singer/guitar player and doesn't know it(or does but doesn't care!) I'll definitely miss the rest of the band.

I have an outdoor wedding anniversary party this afternoon. It's supposed to be above 90 degrees and humid. We're going to play for about two hours. Stage is supposed to be under canopies. I hope so. Lots of hydration and sweat towels will be needed
Well, played at our county fair a couple days ago. It was really fun, except the sound man was an absolute ***hat. If I have to use a PA, I always prefer mic'ing my amp so I get the character of the speakers, which is part of the whole sound. Even though he had spare mics he was very rude and told me how stupid I was to believe speakers had anything to do with tone, and plugged me into DI. After the show, some of my friends in the audience and my family, who know what my tone sounds like best, mentioned how it just didn't sound quite right, that it didn't really have any "power" behind it. The sound guy was such a jerk. He didn't take us seriously at all, like he didn't even try to properly balance us, the guitar was to quiet the whole set even though the guitarist repeatedly asked for it to be louder. And the next band sounded WAY better, not because they were, but because he actually put effort into getting them to sound good because they are better known. ERG.

Well that was very interesting!
The band also had to do a bit of acting - the main character of the movie jumps up on stage while the band is playing and joins in on keyboard - badly.
We had to look confused and slow down and dissolve into musical disarray as a result. Not that hard for us!
Apparently it looked fantastic and the director was very happy with it.
There's going to be a 'soundtrack' album released along with the movie - which we will be included on, very amazing.
Having a big crowd of extras jumping up and down going crazy to your music was quite something. If only it were always the same!

The rain didn't miss us this time. Amount of first set completed: half a song. I hope Grandma brought her wetsuit.
The good news is, we set up a minimal amount of amps & mics inside the place, played soggy and without drums, and salvaged the gig. We went over very well!
The keyboard player has gotten a haircut that makes him look exactly like one of the characters from the old "BC" comic strip. I didn't tell him...
Just got back from a late night Burgess Penguin gig at Eyedrum, went very well, even if we did play to a small audience. Our new drummer Dean just kicks ass and lays down some serious funk!
Just waking up from a crazy night. We played our singers mothers wedding. A big El Salvadorian wedding. Anyone from Boston should know the place. Used to be called Wayloo's on Rt. 1 in Malden/Saugus. Total like "Enter the Dragon" Palace look to it.
Got there about 5 to set up. The ceremony and reception was at the same place. We hung out back and were drinking some high lifes and talking to our friend herb while the staff was rearranging the room. We played a few covers, starting with Smooth from Santana, then our own little reggae interpretation of Billie Jean, and Santeria from Sublime. Also played three originals, and everybody was dancing the whole time.
After we loaded everything back up, we went to the club that was upstairs and there were like 5 bachelorette parties and two different clubs. We walked around like we owned the place and got some awesome band pics in front of a giant Buddah and crazy asian statues. Someone got stabbed while we were there and ended up searching cars on the way out. Thankfully the Staties saw that we all had gear and just let us roll past. All in all and awesome night.

Pair of clubdates this weekend. Both are way closer then the 3 hours throughthe monsoon, I had last weekend. To play in a tent, during a storm. The ground was saturated so the dance floor was going to be a slippery mess. That was before a little stream was created that flowed across the dance floor.
Booked for a festival in Haymarket VA on Saturday. Weather channel is calling for storms from tonight all the way through the weekend.
4 gigs 4 nights running 
3 local and 1 not-so local (not a million miles away but still a hour-and-a-half/couple hours drive...) Should be interesting, never done 4 gigs back-to-back before. BIT wary of the last one...nice place/atmosphere but we played there a few weeks ago and it was the worst gig I've ever been a part of! (not gonna go into it...)
So yeah - i'll be knackered at the end of it so wish me luck!

Tonight is my first gig as a bass player. It's with my 3 piece punk band. We have a really short set but I'm excited.
