Playing "The Boulevard Lounge" this week end in lovely downtown New Port Richey, FL. Medium sized club that is well known locally. Good weather forecast, should bring a lot of purdy bikes out. Purdy bikes means purdy girls. Should go well. (Can you say "chompin' at the bit"...lol) Printing new set lists as I speak (type?).
Will do gig report Sunday 3/15/09.

Garstang Arts Centre Tonight in Lancashire (UK) with the John Towers Big Band. Will have to get the double bass out for that one.
Also using it as an excuse to try out my new PA system bought for my new Jazz/Soul outfit. The big band soloists will have no excuse not to be heard now!

Not always the biggest gig in my week, but free drinks at half time make it worthwhile (My wife playes 1st trombone in this band so she can drive me home!)

Had a great 5 day "holiday" in Athens over last weekend and the few days beforehand. What a beautiful city.

Played at a festival in An Club, not a huge crowd, around 500, but a nice sized room for that crowd.

Things didn't all go smoothly, we ended up getting tear gassed because a riot started close to a bar we were in.

Apart from that, great time.

Thursday gig went very well. Appreciative crowd, got a lot of requests before we started, so we threw the setlist out and just winged it. Lots of fun, a few special guest singers.
The drummer's pint glass of ice water fell on top of my Marshall DBS 7200, and splashed onto a power strip, but no harm was done. The glass didn't even break.
A cop followed me for about a mile on the way home, then turned off on a side street.
All in all, a good night.

Following up as promised;
Friday 3/13/09: Arrived at gig for set up and spend almost an hour trying to dial in P.A. for crazy "L" shaped room. Bar is about 1/2 full & we kick off on time (9:30pm). Buy 10p bar is at capacity & dance floor is full. Down to last 3 songs of the 1st set and shred out w/Paranoid, place goes crazy. Some guy screams "now that's what I'm talking about" so we dive straight into an Aerosmith tune and about 20 biker couples come walking in and head to the outside deck. Same guy now screams "how ya gonna top THAT?" so we plow into Stones-Brown Sugar and the whole place is in a frenzy.
2nd set: place is at capacity & dance floor stays full.
3rd set: we see small shift in clientele as the "bar hoppers" start trickling in and dance floor is only about 1/2 full. More & more of the Bikers couples drift in from the patio and we get lots of smiles and thumbs up.
4th set: Most of the lovey dovey couples are gone but dance floor is still at about 25%, bar & patio are at about 50% capacity. Close out 4th set with a Zep tune no one wants to leave & we get 2 Encores. Good night!

Saturday 3/14/09: Show up for gig at 9pm bar & patio are already at capacity. Kick off on time @ 9:30pm. By end of 1st set it is standing room only and bar calls in extra Bar Tender and extra Bar Back.
2nd set: still standing room only but different kind of crowd, light dance floor but bar tenders are working their @$$es off.
3rd set: Lots of hard partying going on crowd drops to about 70% capacity. Light biker crowd but lots of "white collars" letting their hair down.
4th set: Night owls trickling in, bar at 50% capacity bar tenders still working hard, but we only get one encore. OK night.

Tearing down management pays us for the 2 nights and say they want us in permanent rotation for the rest of the season.
OK turns to good. All in all decent gig, great weather, gotta love Florida this time of year.

Well, I forgot to check in on Friday but I played The New Brookland Tavern in Columbia, SC on Friday ( also my birthday). The gig went well, it was our first live show as a whole band. We had the crowd going so I reckon we did pretty well. We even got invited to play in Charlotte, NC with another band...they freaking rocked. I'm waiting on pictures from the show...should have them today at practice. We played a 30 min set, about 7 songs...it was great. I was trully nervous, and messed up once, but my chorus pedal saved me....thank god!


While Im here I'll go ahead and say we are playing tuesday at Gillians in Columbia...looking foward to that one.

3 weeks since my last gig.
Playing this Saturday at a benefit at the Fauquier Fairgrounds in VA. I hear it's $100 a couple :eek:, come on down!
Then we have 3 weeks off, while the bandleader and his girlfriend go on vacation to Las Vegas. :rolleyes:
I need some sub work.

I've been in a fog for at least a week.

Anyway, Tuesday with the Y's Guise at the Zea Grill has been going very good, they have extended us indefinitely, wOOt!

This week, tonight Tijerina is at the St. Clair Winery here in ABQ, 6:30 - 9:30, Friday at Nardi's Hideaway in Snowmass Village, CO, 8-11,
and Saturday afternoon at the River Run Blues and B-B-Q Festival in Keystone CO, show starts at 1 pm.

Train Wreck Approaching!!

Playing the Cleveleys Ex Servicemen's club tonight with a new band that have only had two rehearsals.

I think its too soon to book a gig, but I've been outvoted, so what the hell....

Everyone is pretty competent as musicians , we just havent got the song structures and endings sorted yet, so there'll be alot of eye contact and waving of headstocks going on.

3 spots to do - pre-and post bingo, (get the idea?)

Wish me luck.....

Well, we got away with it.

A couple of close calls when the drummer stopped the songs early, but in the end we got an encore and even had a couple of dancers!

(In Northen Clubland that is a rarity..)

apparentrly they've asked us back as well, so cant have been that bad from the punters point of veiw. :-)

Feeling slightly bad, as the drummer had expressed a preference for a good few beers after the gig...

due to the constraints of the stage, he had my SWR 4x10 and 300W head right behind his hi hat..

by the end of the gig he went straight home with a thumping headache...


ah well, makes up for the hearing loss inflicted on me by drummers over the past 20 years...

Same band, same setlist next friday at Blackpool Rugby Club, so i'm hoping for an improved performance.

It went pretty well, other than several power outages. Kind of a boomy room, good thing I left the 15" cabs at home. They hadn't quite sold all the tickets, but despite that there were MILFs galore, and they had good food, and coffee! There was a light rain going, but it was not enough to be a problem at loadout.
Another good thing was a big bay door just behind us, so that the trailer could be backed in almost onto the "stage". Sweet!

Friday was with my cover band at Callahan's Bar & Grill in Azusa, CA... fun night - repeat crowd from the St. Pat's shindig, and lots of other friends came by and dance the night away!

Saturday night was Spotlight on the RC in Rancho Cucamonga - This was a community talent showcase. It was a fun show - easy tunes, great stage crew and MD - audience loved the show! Another plus is that I was home, in bed by 11pm and it payed many times more than my bands typical dive bar gigs where I get in bed closed to 3-4am!
