Cherie?

Best wishes to you Cherie, I hope she can live the rest of her life the way that she wants, surrounded by her loved ones.

Thanks darlin. I think that's pretty much how it'll go. She *has* to have Home Health come in, because the nearby family members need the break. But she can eat what she wants, smoke as much as wants when she's not in bed, and sleep/wake whenever she likes.

The thing she wants most, when we are not able to be there, is pictures. Pics of her grandkids, pics of the Texas countryside and old towns and such. Oh, and good chocolate. So...I'm taking lots of pics for her, and sending her a bar of good European chocolate every couple of weeks. You can't get good, imported stuff where she lives, so the chocolate is something she really looks forward to.

I also gave my cousin my recipie (which I got from Mom) for King Ranch Cassarole. The ultimate South Texas comfort food, and Mom's very-most favorite meal. That way, Cousin can fix it for her and freeze it in single-serving containers, and Home Health can heat it up for her. She'll love that! She says Louisiana cookin' is pretty good, but she misses our traditional Texas dishes. When she stayed with us, I fixed calde de pollo, tacos, King Ranch, enchiladas...good food from down home. Some King Ranch, while she's feeling down, will make her feel right at home, like she's back on her father's ranch again.

Cherie :)

Its good you take good care of her and don't argue too much about her wishes at this point. I've seen what pushing an agenda on an old person who just wants to live the rest of their life peacefully and the way they want can do, and I wouldn't wish such an ending to anyone.

You're doing the right thing in my opinion, what matter most is for her to be happy :)

Yep. You do what you can to get that beloved elder to take care of themselves. When they won't, or can't, you just keep them comfy and happy. I think its mean to make someone who is so near the end give up the few pleasures they can still enjoy. We'd both rather enjoy the time we spend together, while we still have it to spend.

Muchos besos, mi amigo...

Cherie :)

Thank you, and tell your wife a said thanks, also.

I was a rotten teenager. Made her worry a lot.

Cherie
So was I. But think how you turned out, and thank your Mum for putting up with you. I let my parents abandon me after being so rotten, it was easier.

:D

The doc asked me, jokingly, "Are you just as stubborn and mean and evil as your Mama is?"

I told him, "Honey, I *have* to be! I learned at the feet of a master! So...I'm worse than she is."

Cherie :)
Carry the flame babe, and be proud doing it :)

Just point it towards Central Texas and let 'er go! All cats end up at my nextdoor neighbors' house, so they'll be fine. ;)

Cherie :)

 So, a "Texas Cat House" really is populated by actual cats!? Damn, I'm cancelling my travel plans now :( .

Anyway, I don't know the whole history of this topic :hmm: , but for what it's worth Cherie, I think that you're right to accept things "as they are" and focus on the positive stuff.

Health and happiness are good companions, so in some ways, it may be better for your mum's health to not be stressed and unhappy about having to change her ways.

All the best to you both, anyway!

;)

Love, peace, and good karma from the North end of Cali. I've missed your random postings, they'd always manage to make me chuckle in some way, shape, or form. Stand strong Cherie, you've got all the TB love in the world coming at you in all directions. :D

P.S. We seriously need some affectionate smilies. :smug:
