Chi-love Club

Speaking of 44-01-Chi-Love: I turned this 44-01 into a CS-monster last week. My impression is that these are a litter hotter than regular CS's.
And no, I took out the pre-amp and installed passive electronics: CTS pots, push-pull for series/parallel, Orange Drop, just the good 'ol stuff. :smug
I agree with Markus, that's very interesting! I wish I had seen this before the Lakland GTG yesterday, I would have asked Bo P. about the drop-ins seeming hotter.

Tnx Markus. In this video, this BaCHBird was played over an Orange AD200 with an Ampeg B40 cab.

The CS Humbuckers sound killer! I added a push-pull for coilsplitting (HB to singlecoils), but the singlecoils sound is not as powerfull or rich as the real Singlecoils.

Anyway, I have an other set of HB'ers lying around, could be nice in the Decade. But I already has a series/parallel in that...sounds killer too! :cool:
Very nice! My Skyline Decade is passive with Chi 'buckers and a push-pull for coil-splitting as well, and my experience has been similar. The 'buckers sound gigantic, although the single-coil mode is a little weak. I think that's why Lakland tends to sell the humbucking Chis in basses with the LH-3 preamp, such as the 44-07 and the active Decade.

Well, that would have been the fastest way Greg, since I already asked Bo this in an email, but he hasn't replied yet. :smug:
Ah, OK. He has definitely been busy. I tried two new Hanson pickups yesterday--a five-string "vintage" P pickup (as opposed to their standard "neopunch") and a single-coil P pickup. Both sounded really great, BTW.

Thanks Greg!

Interesting: did you have the chance to A/B-test Decade's with singles coils and humbuckers? Maybe yesterday?

And well, I think it's a wonderful excuse to have at least 2 ChiSonic-basses:
* one passive with CS Singlecoils, and;
* one passive with Chi 'buckers.

:smug:
I'm afraid I didn't, but I have two Chi basses as well based on this reasoning--the Decade and a JO w/single coils.:D

I'm heading to 4 Chi basses the coming month...looking forward to it. :smug:
* Decade (single coils with push-pull series/parallel with flats)
* ChiJazz (single coils with J-Retro pre - my mainbass)
* fretless Godin A4 (single coils / passive)
* BachBird (Chi 'buckers)

And thanks for that information: I know he is proto-typing the single coil P. Did he say anything about when it's available?

And since this is also Hanson-content: I'm also building a Warmoth/Allparts P right now for myself (in Ocean Turquoise Metallic), which will get a NeoPunch P pup. :cool:

The Neo Punch just kicks a$$! Love that pickup! Can't put my bass with it down!

Confirmed it with JP on Saturday that any GC can order them as well.
A wrench has been thrown into the spokes of my next bass order...Lakie? or another MM...hrrrrmmmm decisions decisions...
What Lakie are you thinking of, Jeremy? (Great meeting you, btw.) Let us corru-, guide you to the best choice.:D

55-94 w/ a rosewood board, flamed maple neck, hs config(with chi sonics I'm thinkin...)and figure out somethin sexy for the top. and teal sunburst for sureeeeeeee that finish is out of control good.

nice meeting you too by the way. glad you, and bill for that matter(with the sweet wishbass) can testify that not ALL gc employees suck :D

Man, that would be sweet. One thing to note: It's not possible to do HS with the Chis. Because of their configuration--I think it's the bar magnets--they have to run in the same mode (humbucker or single-coil) at the same time. That said, these models (they call them 55-07s when they have Chis) are still astoundingly versatile. They come with a passive/active switch, and you can get an extra pot for tone control in passive. (Have you seen Ed Friedland demo'ing his on Youtube?) And the US necks are incredible.

Hrm...I must have missed that info when talking to Bo(i think?) about the Chis and their configurations... Good to know though. I'm not opposed to TWO big fat Chi-buckers. That would be killer.

one thing that concerns me is that the Lakie necks are 3.3 at the last fret, where my SR5 is only 2.75...and that's a bit of a jump in size. I'll have to play around with some more Lakies before I make that call.

Haven't seen that video...but i'm going on youtube rightttttttt now to see it.
