Chicago Music Exchange

My only experience with CME is with an online order recently. I was really impressed with the packaging they did - that bass would have survived anything UPS or FedEx could have done to it. Then, the setup they did before shipping was just perfect.

I just wish Chicago wasn't 5 hours away.

i used to go to a place that may have been in homewood in the early 90s, does anybody remember this? Also there was a great GC on n clark, one on cicero and one way down on the south side... And then there was snukst music where you had to be an ethiopian to fit down the aisles and discover their dusty treasures, but the place smelled like fat bastard from austin powers' taint

Wow! You mentioned all of my old spots. That was when Make N' Music had 2 locations. I use to go to the Homewood location, too. The GC on Clark was just down the street from CME. The one on the southside was on 95th and Western. That was the 1st GC in Chicago. It then moved near 79th and Cicero and later to its current location on 72nd and Cicero. Snukst was one of a kind! There must have been 1000 guitars and basses there. If you knew your stuff, you could get a great deal. The old man preached G&L.

You must be talking about Snukst on south Pulaski?

I went in there once (and only once). Really weird and creepy joint. The owner (presumably Snukst himself) was wearing a sidearm. Ya, jammed with guitars, smelled like a zoo in there.

Best of all, there were a couple dogs walking around in the store with....wait for it.....kotex's strapped onto their rear ends. I'm not kidding.

The place in Homewood...was it Makin' Music?

Cream City has a good selection of basses to check out. They don't have a ton of bass amps on the floor and it is decidedly more guitar-centric, but they've definitely got some pretty basses on hand.

I agree. Cream City is probably the best store in Milwaukee. CME is on a different level. IMHO

I love the place. Marc is awesome. Best part about it is you can grab some gear and go into a private room to test it out through several amp configs. I love the place for pedals. I have never seen so many pedals under one roof. It's overwhelming. I usually try 3-4 while I'm there and have to stop because between that and the bass distractions, I'm spending an entire afternoon hanging out.
