Regarding the apparent reason for the jack change, step 1 is to understand what’s causing your hum. Randomly swapping out hardware is a crapshoot, and waste of your time and money.
Regarding your strongly-held opinions of single coils versus humbuckers, there is an entire world of pickups out there. We have humbuckers that sound like single coils, and single coils that sound like humbuckers. Not to mention split coils, sidewinders, multi-coils, and low-impedance transformer-stepped pickups. Things are most assuredly not black and white, and generalizations will deprive you of some interesting alternatives.
