There isn't such finish that would not let the wood vibrate as long as the finish is not thick enough to become a structural part of the neck. Nitro vibrating, oil letting the wood breathe etc. are just myths that have nothing to do with real life.

You have to finish it and Hopkins is spot on with the nitrocellulose. Unlike spraying a body, you want to spray the neck heavy.

I have bought many warmoth necks and used pure tung-oil ...with excellent results...no issues at all!!!

I recently bought a Tele Warmouth neck and used Guitar Reranch Nitro Cel. satin rattle-can paint on it. It came out beautiful and very sealed! This brand of paint lays down great and is VERY easy to use. It's well worth looking into, all you have to do is mask, dry sand w/ 1200 between coats and you will be happy w/ the results! About 4 coats will provide a nice finish. I have a'74 Jazz bass w/ a sanded off tung oil finish and it is turning more grey-green every year. I would highly recommend this paint!
