Chop Shop: Bronco Edition

Modding a Bronco is fun and, relatively, cheap. I do it all the time. Here are some examples:

Nice! Does the blue Jaguar-style one use the Bronco body, trimmed to shape, or is it a new body?

I'm subb'd to this, too. I like my Bronco a lot and have tried three different pickups in it - with info from Ponticat helping a lot.

I've never found the tuners to be anything but stable and dependable. I have no plans to change them.

I really like the direction you're going - the short scale neck on a Tele body would meet one of my GAS goals. Are you planning to buy a production body? Is there one that is a bolt-on for that neck?

They're a nice platform for those wanting a shorty.

Exactly. Maintain them properly and they'll be fine. I've found that if they feel a bit sloppy, just tighten the phillips head screw on the gear, and then tighten/clamp the collars that hold the shaft in place...fixes them right up.

I'll definitely build my own body. A regular Tele body looks a bit unbalanced with the larger neck to me personally....so I'll scale up the body just a bit. Still deciding on a few other details as well, but those will be revealed in time.

:)

Here's a quick mock up of what I'm looking at. I enlarged a Tele body so that the bass doesn't look as "neck heavy", which required changing/altering a few curves. Obviously the "real bass body" will be much smoother and more refined than the poster board cutout ! :D

I 'rough cut" the body shape with my jigsaw -

Here's the body shape compared to a regular Telecaster body. You can see that it is larger and has some slightly different curves, which I think helps make for a more "balanced" look with the longer neck. ( Of course some of those curves will be further altered in the sanding process.)
