Chop Shop: Bronco Edition

Headstock came out nice.

Cool thread. I'm diggin the work so far.

Thanks ! I just got finished chambering it - then I get to glue it up.... sand the edges .... route the controls, neck, and F -hole .....then paint and assemble !

oooohhhh looking nice DH

u gonna use a slanted 51 p pickup in the bridge?

Thanks ! I'm still deciding on the pickups. I'm considering bass Filtertrons, a few different "humbuckers in a single coil package", and a couple other options.

The neck looks gorgeous.

It's amazing how nice the wood is on some of these "cheap" Fenders. I've seen Squiers with some of the most wicked flame maple necks around. Crazy.

:)

I'm considering bass Filtertrons...

Do you know a good source for a cheap, decent quality Filtertron bass pickup? it would look dead-on for my TB Build submission -- which I'll be kicking off when I get the neck tomorrow. The Dark Star look would be perfect, but she's a bit outta budget...

How would one Gretsch Filtertron in the mid position sound?

Should sound cool. Definitely different than a DS, but should make for a pretty happenin' bass tone.

I bought a pair of those exact pickups from that vendor. They'll go into my 70's Univox hollow body bass, which is a really nice instrument but after living with the pickups for a few years, I've learned that they're pretty mediocre. Unfortunately I have too many projects in front of that one...so it's not done yet.

Thanks for the heads-up -- I'll keep looking. Donor bass should be here today, and I can start the fun...

I "think" he means that the pickups that are stock in the Univox are "mediocre" ....not the Filtertrons, which he hasn't installed yet. At least that's how I read his post.
