Chose My 5-String

After much deliberation and research (and plenty of hands-on time with various options) I opted for the Fender Deluxe Active Jazz Bass V.

Wow, what an instrument! Beautiful finish, solid hardware, and perfectly set up (probably due to the guys at Sweetwater more than anything else). No fret buzz, even on the B string, which is tight and absolutely useable.

The neck of course feels enormous after playing my Schecter Omen Extreme-4 and I'm sure it'll be awhile before I'm not caught off guard by the fact that the top string isn't an E anymore, but all in due time.

Going to need to figure out some new right hand muting techniques too (already looking at the Todd Johnson "floating thumb" videos per recommendations here on TB).

On the upside, after a couple of hours on the Fender, the Schecter feels even easier to play!

Nice!
I had no Idea those came with the huge Omega bridge...

You'll get used to it in time. When I got my first 5, I had the audacity to actually take it on a gig on my 2nd day of ownership...didn't even rehearse with it.
Needless to say, there were a few times when I forgot I had a B when going for an E...

But 20 years later I have pretty much abandoned 4's altogether and love the wide neck.
