The trick is to make it sound good, no matter how simple or hard the gig is. The more I play, the more I respect that ability.

He may have had a gloss poly sprayed over the fingerboard, or more often than not, a really shiny fingerboard?

This was cool.

A lot of pop songs are deceptively simple. Toxic is a fun song to learn. I'm still struggling with it. The feel has to be on point.

And like someone else said, I love the Drumeo videos that do this. The one of Dennis Chambers hearing (and playing) a Tool song for the first time is nuts (in a good way)!

PMJ does what I think is a compelling rendition of this song. I’m often pleasantly surprised how well many pop songs survive so well when the genre is altered.

I worked up a jazzy duet (bass+voice) version with a singer last year. We never did anything with it. Might need to break that out again.

I’m always surprised when someone (especially a musician) hasn’t heard a pop song that has been in the public sphere for 20 years. Just goes to show how music doesn’t penetrate pop culture at large like it used to.

Anthony, I want to personally thank you for highlighting a player and playing and music. So much of tb is now about gear. People are losing sight of the craft en masse.

Notice that he plays the holes as loud as the notes. Our instruments should not necessarily be making sound from beginning to end. Silence is key to groove.
