He does use actives. The black jazz and the red jazz with the black spraypainted scratchplate are both American Deluxe Jazz Basses (4 knobs on control plate, jack located on side of bass rather than front, slightly differently shaped body to standard).

I used "guide" as in it's not quite a guide, but it is really helpful to learn almost everything about Chris and his gear/setup.
So to me, nice guide means this is a great tool.
Do you happen to have your orginal post on your computer? Could you reply it as a private message?
I read it and found it very useful. Pity it's gone.

As for the biased opinion, yea, I like Muse. I think his playing/approach is awesome. Aside from the Animato, the majority of my board was/is the same as everyone elses. Fact of the matter is, I don't appreciate people coming down on something which has a valid reason for being there, publically correcting it, and then providing misinformation when attempting to make it better.
Agreed, although a big thanks to those that did post info, as i've read loads of 'wot peddle doz dat mooze boy play dat maik him sownd lik dat sinf base' and its good to have opinions from people who have compared and contrasted discontinued vs in production pedals in this context. ie: Animato vs Hardwire Tube overdrive. Deep Impact vs absolutely nothing.
I remember reading here that the Hardwire CM2 sounded close to the Animato (it was probably you Kaputsport). I've never really heard that said about any other pedal, although after hearing Grygryx's demo, it didnt really sound that radically different to a 'standard' fuzz (ie: big muff) to me. Is it something im missing? is the Hardwire Tube Overdrive a 'secret weapon' for bass players?
Can anyone (ie Kaputsport) elabourate on how the Animato would be significantly different enough to get two of them as well as two (or 3 i think it is now) big muffs? or is it just that he likes the stacked muff/animato combo?
sorry, i realise that i've gone off on one about the animato when there are other threads about the pedal, but i think that if someone (ie: Mr Muse Fanboy) reads this thread and then goes 'right i need an animato but i cant read japanese to order one and ive only got £100' its nice to know that someone who has owned one (not a massive number of people have) has some opinion on a in-production replacement.
I can see why you are frustrated. In all fairness I think that the 'flowery' (for lack of a better word) language is warranted. Anyone who is looking to emulate Chris is obviously likes Muse/Chris' sound. So it makes sense that they are reading another Muse/Chris' fan account of it all.
Grygrx did a wonderful review of the animato. Some other members have helped to translate the manual, to allow us to know what things are and what they do.
The animato has a very NASAL tone to it. Some say it is "Rat-like" while others call it "muff-like" I find the pedal, blended with clean tone is incredible. After getting it, I was frustrated with the tone, and could not figure out what I needed to make it sound better.
I found, as with all effects, it needed tweeked, and proper placement. After I found the location on the board, and the right gain and tone, I was ready to go.
I use the pedal for Muse covers with the cover band, and other things "Devil Went down to Georgia" and some originals. My board has changed vastly since we recorded, and I substituted it for alot of dirt I had before.
The hardwire is close, and as I said before in another thread. At stage volume, no one in the audience will know the difference. Is it perfect No. Will it cover the tone mixed with clean? Sure. But you'll have to change the tone to be more upper range to get the grindy tone the Animato has. You won't get the nasal sound, but you will get close.

Look, I'm as bummed as anyone that Kaput decided to take his post down, and I definitely got too harsh with my comments. My apologies, I didn't mean to piss anyone off.
I think a Chris W sticky would be a godsend to the effects forum, and I'm definitely not qualified to do so. That said, I still don't think that the original post was nearly as clear or concise as (IMO), a sticky should be. Even if you leave the personal anecdotes in, you should reformat it to be more easily understood--I'm of the view that it should be more like an instruction manual than a journal entry. Hell, even breaking it down into different posts (one for his rig, one for his effects, and one on how to get the tones, for example) would make an incredible amount of difference. We want something that we can link people to when they ask "Hey, so I heard Hysteria, and I want that tone," and if these guys are too lazy to do a search, why would they read your whole post?
As I said, my bad for pissing you off. PM me your address and I'll send you a nice six pack or something.
