Chris Wolstenholme: The Sticky Ver. 1

Look, I'm as bummed as anyone that Kaput decided to take his post down, and I definitely got too harsh with my comments. My apologies, I didn't mean to piss anyone off.

I think a Chris W sticky would be a godsend to the effects forum, and I'm definitely not qualified to do so. That said, I still don't think that the original post was nearly as clear or concise as (IMO), a sticky should be. Even if you leave the personal anecdotes in, you should reformat it to be more easily understood--I'm of the view that it should be more like an instruction manual than a journal entry. Hell, even breaking it down into different posts (one for his rig, one for his effects, and one on how to get the tones, for example) would make an incredible amount of difference. We want something that we can link people to when they ask "Hey, so I heard Hysteria, and I want that tone," and if these guys are too lazy to do a search, why would they read your whole post?

As I said, my bad for pissing you off. PM me your address and I'll send you a nice six pack or something.

Hey man, no harm no foul. I removed it originally, as I didn't want you to correct your mistakes, and to prove a point. It is cool.

Tell you what. I'll make you a deal. You remove your "fix", I'll repost the original, and then go through and split it up into 5 main posts...

1: Effects
2: Amplifiers/Cabs
3: Basses
4: Style (Technique and writing)
5: Personal experiences in chasing his tone

Then once all 5 are done, the community can decide what they like, and we can petition for a sticky... Deal?

And as for the six pack... No need to worry... But I am looking for a Crowther Prunes and Custard for cheap... Let me know if you find one.

A lot of blood sweat and tears went into this, Kudos Kaput.

I've only recently gotten into Muse,...I mean within the last month and mainly due to all these Chris W. effects threads that pop up once a week. If those threads have any merit at least they turned me on to a really good band and a tasty bassist.

While I'm not one to try to emulate or idolize more successful bassists,...I do certainly appreciate the read and gleaning some ideas for my own setup. I hope the mods see fit to sticky this and make it worth your while kaput. Thanks for the hard work.

grygrx hates stickies, so the chances are probably very slim, but this and the tool sticky would be really useful, searching doesn't always work, having it right on the front page i think would get rid of 90% of the "what does wolstenholme use?" threads, same with tool and even RATM

While he may hate sticky's... He also hates looking at the same threads day in and day out...

I suggested letting the thread move to "Bassists" and placing a single Sticky at the top of the page. When you open the sitcky, it has links to all the threads labeled with Band/Bassist Name and would be on going. All they need to do is add the link to the sticky.

Hell, maybe the TB Community could vote for stickies like this, say 50+ votes, and it is included... Who knows.

The problem is that if it isn't listed as a sticky here, we'll probably still get people starting a new muse or tool thread here all the time

No, you missed the point. We would have the sticky listed here.
The thread would reside in "Bassist" and could travel through the back log...

If we bumped it, it would float to the top. You could see the sticky in effects, and if they felt generous, in Bassists as well.

Everyone would benefit.

I hate to say it, but I'm willing to bet that even if this got
stickied it wouldn't have any affect on the amount of Chris W threads started by new members cuz many of them wouldn't even bother reading the stickies to begin with anyways.

just an FYI
I can dial up a VERY, VERY good tone to Hysteria, using my big muff & Digitech Synth
And I dont mean the tone that people on Youtube you see with it, which have too much Synth on, but I get a good sound.

note, due to some IDIOT who pratted around onstage before we played this song, my Synth pedal isnt turned on at the start, when I started playing I knew something wasnt quite right, my synth was off! some idiot prancing around stood on it while he was going off stage, it was silly on my not to check beforehand but hey it was our first gig so lesson learned sooner than later!
I didnt want to change after the intro cus it would have made it sound unprofessional so i changed it at the chorus so people wouldnt notice as much.
sound isnt too great as we didnt have any monitoring so singer couldn't pitch well, and the camera doesnt help but its something atleast!

all in all, thats my and my synth pedal, which tbh sounds good.. I wouldnt pay (not yet, atleast) an extra $600 on just a slightly different sound as I am on a VERY tight budget due to college.

Our drummer also now has Dom's BHAR kit+cymbals, minus the gong-bass which is £1300 just on its own! - (not the same see-thru finish, though as its Doms custom colour) which sounds great! =]

amazing thread! help me so much!
@ kaputsport or Anyone know what mode (and other settings) in Digitech Bass Synth Wah Chris use?

tks!
(and sorry my poor english)

Here ya go, I took this from the Bass Player interview. My batteries are dead now so I don't know what it sounds like but you can guess with that.
