Chris Wolstenholme: The Sticky Ver. 1

Just got this delivered and it’s half animato (thanks to @Crowella for cracking it) and half soviet v8 big muff with a blend between both and an overall clean blend.

That's awesome, where did you get it?
It was made by a chap up in Scotland, called Made by Mike and it sounds absolutely monstrous. My band has a fair few muse songs in our set list so I use this to get into a very convincing ballpark of the Muse bass tone.

For hysteria I blend this with a digitech bass synth wah on mode 4 and it’s extremely convincing in a live scenario

That's awesome, I'll ask him if I could get one because this is just what I need

I'm bored and want to try to start a new discussion or maybe get some help. What settings should I use on the line 6 FM4 for plug in baby and what is the signal path for it. Hopefully someone can help. I will be ordering a FI soon and a FM4, i already have a blender that has 2 paths and clean and I've got the Animato and muff. Thanks in advance.

As far as I’m aware, the line 6 is only ever used for Sunburn, live. It’s the Deep impact that Chris uses for plug in baby. If you haven’t got the FM, and are planning to buy it just for plug in baby, I wouldn’t bother, and focus on getting the Future impact instead. He uses the deep impact more than the line 6

Plug in baby, apocalypse please, I belong to you.

Does anyone know what is going on to get this tone?

I’m taking more in regards to eq, rather than what pedal he is using. That’s the type of tone I’ve been chasing for a while but I have no idea how he’s getting it. I’m assuming he’s using his bridge pickup?

I thought I'd post this in here.

I've been chasing this tone for the best part of the last 17 years, and during Lockdown, I managed to spend some time experimenting with it. This cover is a mimic of the studio recording. However, the same technique could be applied to live performances, providing you have the right equipment.

Full disclosure, the video is mimed to my own backing track. I used the original stems for the Vocals, Drums, and Matts Guitar. The bass track has been swapped out and is 100% my cover.

You can find the full isolated bass recording for my cover using the link below:
For comparison, the original Bass track can be found here:
I am currently putting together a video on how I achieved this tone. Leave a comment, and I'll send you a message when the video has been uploaded.
