Chris Wolstenholme: The Sticky Ver. 1

Great job with the video runthrough there KaputSport! It's extremely informative! However, I would like to enquire on certain things not from the video but for my own enquiry.

You see, getting a Animato and SB1 would be insane for me as it is almost impossible to find it. So in the mean time, while I'm hunting for it and gigging with my band, is there any other alternatives for me to use for both of those babies? I was thinking of using a Rat distortion to replace the Animato. Also I have a Russian Muff Pi but it doesn't have much of a high gain as you even with an AC adaptor plugged in to it. So I was thinking if I replace it with a bass big muff.

Will the tone be affected heavily if I were to replace these pedals based on your rigs or will it just be slightly affected and still stay on the same line?

In conclusion, what I foresee my rig to be would be something like this.

Line A- Oc-2 > RAT
Line B- Bass big Muff pi > Ehx holiest grail

Do you think I can nail around like 70% of the tone based on the efx exclusive of the amps and cabinets?

I'd say if youre goal was to go after Chris' tone then go with the Russian Muff. As you can read here he goes with it a lot and in my opinion it is well worth picking up.

I have heard a lot of people attempt the tone with a rat, and so far, I am not a believer that the two share any DNA. It might fool some live, but I have not heard it.

As for the russian muff, yes, just get one. Bass Big muff is no where near the tone. I would add the BSW, and an OC-2 to that line up as well. P+C for Uprising and Helsinki Jam, and maybe an FM4, though I have yet to find those tones anywhere...

The animato is just different enough, that it is the tone. The SB1 truly has no replacement if copping the tone was what you where going for. The Korg G5 is comparable, but the sounds will not be the same. It truly is "the pedal" to get.

But as a temporary replacement, does a RAT replace the Animato?

I have a Russian Muff Pi but it has some problems. I think the circuit is damaged as the sound of the distortion has very low gain. I barely have any tone coming out of it.
