The "Grand Pimp Daddy" preset comes pretty darn close (and you can tweak it to get closer to the sound you imagine), but the Octavius Squeezer can't REALLY nail that stacked octave Bernie Worrell tone, because you can do one octave down OR two octaves down, but not both at the same time.

I've finally got to the point where I'm getting some pretty sweet sounds from scratch. I made a patch the other night that would continue a step filtered, sub octave synth tone indefinitely after I stopped playing a note on the bass.

It will obviously change the note when I change notes on the bass. It would be great to have a trem, pitchbending pedal etc after it to play around!

Dumb thing is that I didn't manage to save it. I though I had but when I turned the pedal off and on, it was gone :rollno: Sure it was my dumb fault though. I'll see if I can create it again and post the settings on here.

I think a good compressor is going to have to be my next purchase. Some of the peaks of the filter get a little full on sometimes!

I wouldn't recommend this.

A compressor AFTER the OS is really useful for taming volume spikes, but putting it BEFORE the OS to help with tracking would mean that nuances in your playing would be smoothed out, taking away some of the control you have of how the filter opens.

My OS just arrived from Australia today. Wow, it really is a small little pedal. I am still at work so no testing at the moment, but I will give it a whirl when I get home. Buying from Australia saved a lot of cash, I think the total price was just over £200 because of favourable exchange rates and it came through without VAT etc.

Checking in, still no clips ready - i'll be pretty busy through the end of the year

I've been in correspondence with Richard at Chunk, though, and my freezing issues have been resolved with a firmware update. I encourage anybody with an OS to register it, even if you got it used!

It also seems that the effect exchange will be active on the Chunk website real soon! I'll be posting patches there in the future, with soundclips here.

There is another very cool development that I won't mention, but I will say that I am glad I didn't sell mine! :D

oh man, you blew it! if you'd registered online and contacted Chunk, the freezing would be resolved. If you tried a firmware update and it didn't work, the issue was probably resolved with a subsequent update.

Like I said, those of you who preordered and then promptly unloaded your Squeezers (like I almost did) are gonna be like :bawl: when you find out what's coming up with this pedal.

but I've said too much already :ninja:

the difference between buying a synth and using pedals to make synth sound is, for me, a matter of expressiveness... a bunch of pedals (mostly analog) can maintain the feeling of playing bass, and for me, having that tactile feel and responsiveness of my bass, far exceeds the sonic flexibility of a real synth... maybe if i was totally killing on keys and had 2 moog voyagers on stage, i might not need pedals... but... then that would be much more expensive than my pedal collection..
