CHURCH GIGS FROM HELL STORIES

Well, not really horrible enough to qualify for a "GFH" thread, but it's happened a few times:

The bandleader plays keys, and occasionally does an auto-transpose for a song. And then forgets to switch it back. Him, me, and the rhythm guitar all start on the downbeat, and 2/3rds of us are in the right key. That throws me off, I check my left-hand position, look over at the guitarist, listen for a measure or two, can't figure out what key he's in, and wind up just muting out for that song.

I kind of consider it a humility check. The bandleader feels bad about it (and yes, we give him a hard time for it ;)), but I look at it as a reminder that I need to work on my ear training so I can adjust for that kind of thing on the fly.
