I also enjoy smoking cigars and pipes.

My usual cigar rotation includes:

Royal Jamacia Gold-Toro
Padron 3000 & 4000
CAO Brazilia- Samba
Hoyo de Monterey - Excalibur Dark Knight II
El Rey del Mundo - Robusto Larga
Punch- Rare Coroja Pitas

On the inexpensive side:

Don Tomas- Maduro
Sancho Panza- Dbl Maruro
Punch - Rothchilds

I don't really care for the "new formulation" of Royal Jamaica...tastes too much like spicy wood. Much preferred the old RJ, it had a certain sweetness to it- not sugary sweet, but a soft, earthy sweet that lingered on the palate for a while.

I think that's why I love Cuban Montecristos- they have that underlying sweetness, kind of a vanilla/buttercream note to it.

If you haven't tried a cigar this way, I highly recommend you do: get a good double-shot of Cafe Bustelo coffee (espresso style) with either sugar or Splenda. Light up, sip, puff, bliss!!! The two flavors have this wonderful synergistic thing going on. That's the way I used to have them at Carlos' shop...he'd put on a Cuban coffee, and roll me a nice stick. He used turbinado sugar, Cuban-style coffee is very sweet.

Some old Cubans in Miami would sit around a card table playing dominos, cigars in one hand, coffee in the other, occasionally one would dip the tip of their cigar into the coffee. That is some seriously good flavor, the way the two flavors marry up is incredible!

Oh, BTW, I tried to find Carlos, someone else is living in his old trailer, so I went to the landlord and was told they were evicted in Feb. :( Apparently, he was in pretty bad shape, his daughter came and moved him out. They haven't been seen since. She thinks they might have gone to Florida. No forwarding address, no contact number. :bawl:

Not a big Padron fan myself, perhaps I haven't had the right one. None of the ones I've smoked have had "it". Major, let me know what you think of the small assortment I sent you when you get it. Some are easily found in shops, some are semi-rare. Not impossible to find, just not as common. All have been seasoned in my humidor, they should arrive in good shape, as I put a humidi-pack in there.

I'm down with that...except I don't remember where the cigar bar at Hartsfield is hidden...;) I really need to get back to GA this year. My GF doesn't like to fly, and it's a 12-hour drive. If I take an Archer, I gotta get current again, and a new medical, so that's expensive. Plus, it'd still be over 5 hours with a fuel stop in MS. But she hates to fly (afraid of heights!). What to do, what to do...I want to have her take a couple Benadryl and a glass of wine, then fly commercial, but it's only a two-hour hop that way, and the Benadryl would only knock her down for about 6-8 hours, which means she'd effectively be over the limit for carry-on baggage!

Are you a pilot? you know i seem to remember ther being a cigar bar at hartsfield, or maybe i'm crazy. only problem now is you cant get past the baggage area unless you have a ticket. i wish someone would open a cigar bar in sandy springs. this area is ripe for that now.

Yup, I am a pilot. Don't fly much anymore, got really expensive, plus every jackball in an F-16 wants to blow your arse out of the sky nowadays...the whole "War On Terra" thing, I guess. Too many regs, bust one and you'll either get shot down, or get fined to death and never get to fly again. General Aviation (the little Cessnas and Pipers) is dying in this country. I hate that it's happening, but at least I know what it's like to take off on your very first solo, all alone in the plane, and feeling the rush of flying! Can't wait for 10 years from now, with all the current airline pilots retired, and airlines begging for applicants. Know where they'll all come from? Hint- it ain't the U.S.and A.! GA should be dead and buried by then, and owning a plane will probably be illegal. No new pilots means just that! :spit:

you know whats funny, i have 2 friends who are commercial pilots. one with northwest and one with american, and the both less than a week ago said the exact same thing.

i think the airline industry is headed for the crapper.....he says as he is about to fly to dallas.

ps- good thing for you i dont have an f-16 or i'd be mad. i only have an f-14:D

I'm also very fond of the Travis Club line from the Finck Cigar Company out of Austin. The Premium Perfecto's in either the Maduro or Connecticut Shade wrapper is a tasty treat and they are very inexpensive.

I have a cigar on occasion, maybe one every 2 months or so. My personal favorite are the La Flor Dominicana, El Jocko #2 Natural. small cigar, but a good slow smoke.

As far as health concerns go, Cigar smoke is more toxic and more carcinogenic than cigarette smoke, but disease prevalence is related to frequency of use and type of use. For instance, an occasional smoker who does not inhale the smoke is likely to see less health effects than 1-2 cigar a day folks who take the smoke deep into their lungs (lung cancer/COPD, etc.) However even occasional use increases oral/laryngeal cancer risks.
