Circle K strings...

One major flaw hasn't been addressed as far as I have seen:

These strings are so tasty that even though mine are a year old I have no desire to change them whatsoever. Usually I get to a point where I start hating my old strings, but not so far with these.

Are we going to start seeing commercials similar to Stride?

**Chew a new piece already**

Let me know how that 32" works out. I've been interested in getting a medium scale bass and if I could make circle k strings work, that'd be ideal.

They just arrived but I have not had time today to string them up but in just sizing them against my Cirrus and Persuader, neither neck is long enough to get to the taper at the end, though it looks like on the Cirrus I will have a few turns on the taper on the A and D strings.

The guage is low enough that I don't think I'll have a problem stringing these on either bass. I'll report back later.

Well, they have a new fan here. I strung up my Cirrus that has Alembic electronics and that bass just came to life! I've tried DR BB's, DR Hibeams and I just removed some Rotosound Swing Bass 66 (45-105). Both the DR sets are 40-100 and sounded great but the Roto's were blah; fast attach and very fast decay, almost as if they were dead but they are fine. I think my action might just be too low for those.

These CircleK's are just plain awesome. Great feel, excellent clarity and harmonics, and for as bright as they are, they don't have a lot of string noise when you slide. Oh, and did I say great feel?

My search is over.

So they didn't give you any trouble with the 32" scale?

I haven't tried them on my Alembic but I'm sure they will work but I know that the E will be a slight challenge with the E but I'm used to it. Every string I've used on that bass never was short enough to be able to use the string taper.

I've kind of changed plans though. I am putting the other set on my stock Cirrus and taking the DR BB's on it to the Alembic. The strings currently on the Alembic were originally on my Cirrus.

Hey Knuckle Head!

Hoping you're monitoring this thread. Just got a set of your balanced 96's. Haven't put them on yet, but thought I'd comment on the packaging. It's cool that you don't want to wind them up too tight, but the standard big envelope they came in is big and too floppy - the mail man had to curl it up to fit into the box. Luckily, I didn't have too much other mail - if I did, I can see that they could have very easily gotten kinked when he crammed things into the mailbox. This time they got here OK, but I'm not so sure I want to order more, if they aren't protected a little better. Standard string sets in coils may make you cringe, as they get curled up, but I've never had them not straighten out easily, and that size package is small, and more robust, as there's lots of string coiled up on top of each other.

Anyway, my $.03 (inflation)

It seemed a little weird pulling that big folded package out of my mailbox and I can see your point if I had some additional mail that was heavy enough to actually crease the CircleK package but I don't see that ever happening. If it does, I will have a talk with my mailman.

It was actually kind of refreshing opening a set of strings, already uncoiled and straight.

So I'm 90% sold on getting a set of the balanced Circle K strings KingRazor recommended to me earlier in this thread but I'd really like to get a solid idea of what they sound like.

I bought my chromes based on a Youtube video demo and was hoping there would be some videos up demoing Circle K strings, but although Circle K have a Youtube Channel the only videos they have up have such bad sound quality that they could playing any strings.

I'm surprised they don't have some proper demo vids up... It couldn't hurt their sales. :hmm:

Does anyone here happen to have vids up on Youtube where they play with CK strings?

Here is my testimony for Circle k's.
Bass: MIM Jazz with Quarter-Pounder SJB-1's -passive
Bone nut, CircleK- 4 String Set - Balanced Standard 150's.
Bass is tuned down 1/2 step to Bb, Eb, Ab,Db. So its 34" scale with a bolt on neck. I read alot about players trying to find a good B string. Well, mine is down a half step from that and sounds fabulous. No flop, just good strong rich tone. During breaks, quite often, I have people ask me about my "high end USA made " Fender Jazz bass, or what kind of active circuitry it has. You should see the look on their faces when I tell them its a passive MIM. It even sounds good just D.I.'d through the P.A. and my monitor. I would like to thank Circle K for the best strings I have played in 30 years. They have allowed me to get rid of all my cabs and amps. Its D.I. from here on out.

Yes.
I'd actually prefer coiled strings in a thick wall rigid box perhaps even as small as 6" cubed (as O4P do). Consider what it goes through in the system, it has to be crush proof essentially.
Perhaps the straight storage package could just be coiled round just a little more tightly and in a rigid box.

I got my 136 Balanced 5 set yesterday and immediately put them on. I instantly liked the tension. From practice last night, I was really surprised at the tone. For being new strings, they did not have the "new string harshness" that I dislike soooo bad. They were bright, but the bottom end was all there. I REALLY liked the 136 B on my TL-5---which helps with the 34" scale.

The overall feel took a bit to get used to---as in, the much heavier B and the much lighter G. I kept expecting to feel a heavier G string all night. I really enjoyed not having an overly tight D string that I generally have on the TL-5.

Now, I need to do a major intonation job tho. Every string is either now set too high or too low. With that aside, I think I have found my new string set for my 5er!!
