Circle K strings...

All it would mean is stopping the voiced length about 1.5-2'' sooner than the Standard strings do on the strings that are bigger than .080''. That's probably just your E/B strings. So I bet you could get them to do a batch custom if nothing else.

Actually that might be a good idea seeing as how long these things last. One custom set per year (or 2 years) ain't so bad.

So, for my P bass, I'm wanting to go up to a much heavier gauge, but I don't think I've even had my current set on for 6 months. Makes it hard to justify the extra money.

Guess I just need to buy another bass! :D

"You may notice a slight variance on gauges when your orders arrive - this is due to our mad scientist making improvements to our sets faster than I can update the website - were going through some changes - adding even MORE options and MORE gauges - so look for changes to the website soon, and if you have any questions about the gauges you received - just know that this is not an error but a fine tuning of the sets! Any recommended ck strings on a fretless jazz 4 string?.
I have been using sunbeams and liked the sound, but all the hype around here has me curious.
thanks

I love them on my jazz fretless. But I love the bright, burpy fretless sound. They can easily by tamed with the tone knob and rolling up the neck pickup a little bit, though.

Thanks for the feedback. I think im gonna check out a balanced 4. I know it comes down to personal preference but has anyone have a recommendation regarding gauges. There Are so many choices.
Thanks,

What's your favorite E-string gauge? Go with that or something similar.

For me, I prefer the feel of a .110 E, so I use the Balanced 112's.

For me, it really depends on the bass and the setup of the bass. I find Fenders need heavier strings, but my Pedullas really like lighter gauges and my Musicman is in between the two. Part of the reason I like the Circle K's so much is the variety of sets and gauges, plus they just sound and play awesome!!

+1 on the Fenders + heavier strings. A .100 gauge set was plenty on my Ibanez, but on my P bass it just isn't nearly tight enough.

A balanced .112 set is in my future. :D

Where do you play in relation to the strings? I've heard of this same problem before and when watching where the player anchored his thumb on both basses, it was directly over the bridge pickup on the non-Fender and directly over the P-pickup on the Fender.

I play all over the place. Wherever feels right for what I'm playing. I like the tone best playing directly over the pickup, but sometimes I need to play in a tighter spot for some parts, not because of tone but because of feel. During those parts I play very close to the bridge.

I definitely notice a difference. On my Ibanez sometimes I would play with my thumb anchored on the edge of the fretboard and play over the neck-side edge of the neck pickup. I get a "fatter" tone out of it when I play down there. When I play too close to the bridge I get a thin, overly-tight and almost "brittle" tone. On my P bass especially, playing over the neck pickup gives me the tone I like best.

Of course, when I made the switch to Circle Ks I've found myself playing much closer to the bridge than I ever did before, but I think that's because of how loose the strings are when I play close to the neck. Though unlike with the D'Addarios I was using before, I still get a great tone until I get right up to the bridge. So I wind up with more "usable" space to pluck.

We'll see how/if things change when I move to a heavier set.
