Circle K strings...

I've had 2 D strings slip off my tuner peg, got a 3rd one to finally stick, but it's kind of old... This is the first time it's been a problem on my D string, usually get at least 2 wraps, but the string that I got to finally stick on there had about 1 3/4 wraps around the tuner peg. argh. Wonder if I can get a replacement D string.

And these are your Circle K's? Are you cutting them too short?
 
I cut enough to get at least 2 wraps on each post, the one that ended up staying only had 1 3'4" of a wrap, if I can get a .057 D string I'll try going to 3 wraps, though that distance the wrap starts to not cover the core fully. Maybe I should try a longer D string?

I use as many wraps as is needed to get the string near the bottom of the tuner. It shouldn't matter if it's just the core or not.

Skip's strings are pretty long after the nut, and people with Fenders and Thunderbirds seem to get them on the G-string just fine.

One technique I've used when my strings slip is to wrap back through the slit.

I might have to try that, in fact Skip's even sending me another D string(Another reason I love DR and Circle K, best customer service ever?) but I'll try that technique one more time when I get home.
 
Hi guys,
Currently on my ATK 34" scale 5 string i have a set of ernie ball 50-70-85-105-135, and for me the two lower strings are too thin. Will my neck be able to handle a 150 B string and a 112 E string with a BEADG standard tuning?

I am looking to try a balanced set for my Carvin LB75...I want to try something with balanced low tension....tuned normal.....B-E-A-D-G....any suggestions how low tension I can go?

Circle K recommend exceeding 30 pounds for best tone. The balanced .124 set has roughly 33 pounds tension on each string. On a 35" scale the .118 set has roughly 31.5 pounds.

Thank you for the advice, so i would be ok with a 34" neck .118 set...its that or .124.

Sorry my post wasn't clear. You asked how low a tension you can go. On a 34" scale you need the .124 set or thicker to exceed 30 pounds of tension (as recommended by Circle K). 30 pounds of tension is a very low tension by bass standards, equivalent to your average .090 E string.
The .124 set will be extra light at 33 pounds, it has a .092 E. The .130 set will be light at 36 pounds, it has a .096 E. So I recommend either the balanced .124 or balanced .130 set. If you choose according to your preferred gauge for E that seems to work well.
The Circle K tension chart is for a 34" scale.
