Cirrus sound clip... Ping!

The high-end ping you speak of, is what has kept me from buying what I consider to be an incredible instrument. The sound just doesn't suit my attack/playing style...but...for you, obviously a great match ! Sounds awesome !
Scary, sounds a lot like my maple5. Although a little cleaner and not as twangy of a G. My G is like twice the volume and even vibrates different, I just don't get it. That side of the neck is also off a bit, with the B side straight, its still got a bow, so it makes that string sound weird.
I slap on mine a lot, but it doesn't come out that clean, nice playing. I think I mash the unused strings too much with my palm, and as cirrus owners can testify, any noise from any string will come through clear as can be.
I've sort of learned to make it's odd overtones part of my overall sound and embrace them.
Mine is missing that bubbly midrangy slap sound you have, these days, but I did completely change the setup, and I need to lower the pickups to match I think.
At least I now know mines not too far off par for these.
I also should note, that my 4, to the exact specs as yours, sounded nothing like this. It sounded more like a jazz favoring the bridge. But with both level and pickups level. I liked it a lot, but it was really thin sounding, so I sold it to afford other toys. It didn't sound anything like my other cirrii.

NJL was right - this was all recorded in Apple's Garageband software, with the bass plugged straight into the computer. IIRC all three tracks were burned with tone knobs flat and the pickup balance dead center - so this is the unadulterated, fundamental tone of the bass.
If you have a Cirrus and like what you hear here, I might suggest trying a set of DR Fatbeam strings. As I've posted before, I think they complement the Cirrus really well. Troll, have you tried a different set of strings to see if it helps your G string issue?

That was some great slapping and the Cirrus sounds fine. It's seems like you've got that Stuart Hamm type of thing going on! I'm noty suprised you got such a good sound. The Cirrus is one of my favorite basses. Those who don't check it out are cheating themselves.

Very cool... it sounds like a mix between a StingRay and a Ken Smith.
I think the particular "ping" you talk about is because the location of the pickups. The bridge pickup is really close to the bridge and when you mix it with the neck pickup it gives you that kind of sound.
Too bad they don't make the Cirrus left-hande, otherwise I would have one...

Not on the 5. I tried some DR's on the 4 and I think it ruined it. It just didn't have the same character. I can't seem to get away from the Cirrus strings, in feel and sound...
Admittedly, it's volume issue only really becomes apparent under heavy compression, but it does even feel a bit different. I think I got a bit of a lemon of a cirrus. As I've mentioned before around here. I think the bridge is on crooked.
I noticed all of this only after owning it for a long while and it was already 'broken in' with the usual worn frets, knicks and dents, and everything else my basses go through with my abuse
I didn't have the gear and volume to really notice how it really sounded for quite awhile I guess.

Thanks... all of my "practice" time lately has been devoted to adjusting to a 5-string, and to learning new tunes for new bands. I'm afraid my slap chops aren't as good yet on the 5, and I haven't much touched the old Cirrus 4 in months, in order to try to make my old, weak brain forget some 4-string preconceptions. I'm afraid you're not the only one here who could use some practice!
