There's a proverbial ton available used for pennies on the dollar. Not many choices on the new market.
Look for a used Markbass LittleMark 2 or very early LittleMark 3. Only about 6 lbs and class a/b.
Yea, I never understood why that's necessary when they have preamp Gain control.

Given your avatar I would look for a used GK 700 or 1001 RB. They have everything you asked for (at least functionally) and a bit more. They also have a somewhat legendary signature tone and are rock solid reliable.

IF a desirable tone is preamp overdrive then it's pretty much essential to have control over gain (aldo called drive) and a post gain stage volume (or master volume).
Definitely love me some GK. I have several now. I wanted to amass a small collection of vintage not super heavy Cass AB amps both GK and others.
To have an input pad is nice when you get the occasional super hot bass. I got a G&L L2000 that has got to be the hotest bass on the planet. It will overdrive an amp that doesn't have a pad.
Great amps. I actually had the LM3 great amp. It has a SMPS and I'm really looking for non SMC old school type amps. I should have thought about that in my original post.
Well, your avatar pic leads me to assume you’ve already checked out the GK options.
RAG has indicated that they’ll have their next-generation Class-AB amps out in the next year or 2.
Until then, you’ll need to focus on used options.
Sounds like you have/like a GK RB-Series amp and just want another flavor.
I’m in a similar boat; I’d like to find an alternate for my 700RB for when my ears get “moody” but that 700RB just tends to make other amps sound slow and bloated...I’ve never been as satisfied, for as long, with another amp.

Great thread lots of cool amps mentioned. After so many mentioned the SWR stuff I found a deal locally for a vintage SM400 that looks real clean. Guy says it has some scratchy spots. Hopefully I can square those away myself. Planning on running it Bridged into an 8 ohm GK CX-210.

Yes haven't played owned them all but have a fair share. Was going to try to maybe score an 800RB and 400RB and if course I will get the new RB when it comes out. Prolly gonna get one of the new Fusion 1x12 Combos too.
I want to pick up several other okd school amps.
The SWR stuff is great, but can get scooped sounding in a hurry with that “Aural Enhancer” circuit.
Well, I'm not so sure. I've owned L-2000s and, yes, they're hot.
That said, if you introduce preamp Gain conservatively, I think the pad would not be necessary. I'm hoping someone with even greater technical understanding will chime in.
I'm am sure. I own two L2000 basses one is not an issue one is absolutely unusable with any of my amps that dont have a pad.
