Class D popping up everywhere. Innovation?

I know I"m going to get this wrong, but I was forced via equipment issues to play through a young trainee's Fender rumble something-or-other - a model that's on the sales floors currently. as best I could tell, every setting on it [it was all presets... we searched in vain for a way to get "clean"... its not offered] had varying degrees of digital effects. all were uncool in my opinion [and I have squirrelly opines...]. my conclusion/guess was that it was all simulated/modeled/approximated digi bass.

I have no problems with virtualizing amps - another major american brand is headed that way fast but shooting for high-end - like letting the Pro pick his poison from simulated analog equipment. Line 6 gets high marks for its HD line for Guitar - I know a very accomplished Pro player who almost exclusively plays a line 6 HD500 now and he would NEVER have gone that way with any past such efforts.

if the tone is there, buy it and play it. if not, we move on.

Indeed, this is a feature of any technology that is used in the arts. Nothing ever becomes obsolete. Rather, the new stuff simply takes its place alongside the old stuff, and we all benefit from the greater variety of choices.

While I try not to generalize too much and usually shun predictions, I believe this to be a very accurate observation.

So many people complain about the MarkBass speakers. I don't have an issue with the tens in my 104HF at all. I get nothing but clean, even response from the cab. I'm completely happy with my SA450/104HF rig. I've been using it for years. I still get comments from other players on how even and full sounding the rig is.

I played the rumble 350 in several different stores then took my bass to one store for one last try as I was going to walk out with it that day.

I did not

it sounds good at lower levels but again, there was just something that hit my ear that just didnt sit right no matter how I tweaked it..

who knows maybe its time for me to hang up the bass and find a new hobby

I honestly love it when the oposite happens to me. I walk in with this rig and I always have bass players tell me how great it sounds and how it makes them want to down size. I have a old tube amp on a 810. It now never leaves the basement.
