Y'all can and probably will continue to live in your fantasy world where the world never changes and music never progresses. But the fact of the matter is that music that's quickly approaching the age where it can collect a social security check is not the wave of the future. People who grew up listening to it are going to start dying off real soon. And all the nostalgia driven interest in the era will see a dying with them. That's just how linear time works. The world moves on.

Class D - What's next?

Funny that it’s an afront to younger-oriented folks when older acts fill stadia. Sure those acts are dated and will fade away before too much longer but that's true of your favored acts as well. Ours are pathetic now, yours will be pathetic before long. However sad it feels to you, we really are alike. Cringe you must!
You don't have to sit in your own filthy bath water. You can accept the present and embrace the future. You can want the change. You can allow your tastes to continue to grow beyond your coming of age as the world changes around you instead stagnating and dying. You can be as relevant to the future as you allow yourself to be.
Know very little about the nutube...
There are some tubes out there extremely tiny...
Not necessarily audio but something similar could be manu'd and used...
Substantial tube power in a small package... Maybe a Peltier heat pump to cool package...
So embracing the present and future means foregoing the past? No, I enjoy some of each and I’m not interested in being exclusive in my likes. I’ll enjoy my filthy bath water, vacuum tubes and Rolling Stones as well as class D power stages and Snarky Puppy, thank you. The subjects of nostalgia are no more static than anything else that changes over time.
You can and should listen to music from all eras. And yes there are children who are being born now who will become just as curmudgeonly in their nostalgia as the elders. I'm just saying it doesn't have to happen to you.
And as for tubes. They'll be around for a while still. They'll probably even see an isolated sort of renaissance when all of the people who obsess over them have died and their prices plummet because you can't give them away. But then they will become relics and the few remaining will be too expensive for people to afford.
Why would someone be concerned with what’s next? Next has not happened yet. Why would someone be concerned with the past? Past has passed. Why doesn’t someone be concerned with the present? It’s a present! If you have one foot in the future and one in the past, you’re prolly pissing on the “Present “
The issue is that yes, things have changed, but it's interesting how those changes have been rejected such that groups like the Rolling Stones remain as popular as ever. I'm bewildered that it's the Stones who made it, but also recognize that, when compared to other more popular acts who have appeared in similar venues such as the Super Bowl, the Stones stand out out as really freaking good.
Everyone should enjoy music that they like, they way they like to, and let everyone else enjoy music the way their own way.
To me music has always been a very personal, almost private thing, I like what I like and I discover new music I like mostly by accident. Many of my friends “think” they know what I like, they tend to stereotype me as a metal guy, and suggest specific bands, but usually those suggestions do nothing for me. I’m mostly over metal, but when I was younger it could fairly be said in the most general terms that I was in fact a metal guy, BUT I only actually liked about 6 or 7 metal bands. At on time in the ‘90’s my three favorite bands were Slayer, P.J.Harvey, and Kyuss. I tend to like music that has some weight to it, atmosphere, and sometimes even aggression. I can say that there is very little I like about electronic music and hip hop (but give me some 60’s and 70’s R&B any day). I like the sound and feeling of humans playing instruments, with their fingers and hands and feet. I try never to use the phrase “those guys suck” just because it is not my taste in music.

By that logic, there’s absolutely no reason to be concerned about strolling across a busy thoroughfare...
The egg. A genetic mutation from a non-chicken produced an egg that contained the embryo of a chicken.
So, maybe the next thing from class-D will be a class-D with enough modifications to make it no longer a class-D amp?

Somebody has to think "I wonder if this can be done...." or "is there a more efficient way to do this..." or "This would be cool..." or we would still be waiting for the RCA Victor to warm up to watch Gunsmoke.
Just bouncing ideas around can sometimes generate some cool ideas...
It is then up to design folks to figure out how to do it without destroying civilization....

Doing something because it can be done, not because it's useful and provides a valuable function or solves a real problem is the recipe for a short lived trendy product. A look at the consumer electronics world shows products like this that are here today and gone tomorrow. IMO, your hard earned dollar deserves better than that from all of us designing new products. That's just my opinion, but I know I'm not alone here.

I didn’t realize how long Gunsmoke was on - ‘51-‘62 on the radio and ‘55-‘75 on TV. That’s a good run.
