Class H

Pretty sure the OP is thinking about the new RB Legacy amps, which are Class H.

The new GK video on RB Legacy Amps is by a wide margin the best I have seen from any Manufacture in showing what amp is capable of

They choose Class H but there are Great Class D, A/B, Tube and Class G and not so great ones

Class D seems to be most designers choice to reach their goals nowadays including GK

But they're not 1000 & 2000 watt bass heads. Those are peaks or as GK is calling them now, bursts. Throwing that number out there is what I call a Bugera move. Bugera claimed 2000 watts for their amps that they sell for 300 and 450 bucks. And they weren't lying, just not telling you all of the story. That was their peaks, not sustained power, which when they don't tell you which rating they're using, can be very misleading depending on how much knowledge the customer has or doesn't have.

But GK does give you the numbers for sustained (RMS) power for their amps, hid under all the marketing glitter of "1000 & 2000 watt bursts.", which really surprises me. GK is not a company that has anything to prove. Their amps have been mainstays on stages the world over for some of the most well known bass players around for decades.

The new RB Legacy 1001's power ratings are:

300W RMS @ 8 ohm
400W RMS @ 4 ohm
600W RMS @ 2 ohm

And the 2001's are:

Bridged Power
800W RMS @ 8 ohm
1200W RMS @ 4 ohm

Dual Mono Power
300 W RMS @ 8ohms per channel
400 W RMS @ 4 ohms per channel
600 W RMS @ 2 ohms per channel

I think a key difference is Bugera does not give you the RMS rating, and GK does.

AFAIK a burst rating is the amount of power that can be sustained over a defined, short interval. You might think of it as dynamic headroom. Here's a relevant article: Measuring Burst Power | Bass Gear Magazine

I do agree that GK's given burst ratings are pretty meaningless since the measurement standard is not mentioned.

Generally “burst power” is defined as a 20mS gated tone burst to the clip point followed by about 500mSec (varies with different definitions) of the tone at -20dB. This spec was developed decades ago for full range music signals.

The problem with this spec for bass guitar is that 20mSec represents only about 2 cycles at 100Hz which is barely audible, in fact it would sound more like a brief pop than a bass signal of any sort.

IME, something longer like 100mSec or 200mSec would be much more useful… but as it turns out, this is also the point that the burst power number converges with the continuous power number.
