It's almost always easier to sell less expensive items. The value to cost ratio seldom enters into it. People have a built-in aversion to putting down big money to buy a major item of gear - regardless of how good a deal it might be. And the bigger the purchase, the more irrational they become.

Just happened to me. Guy swore up and down it was his, mark it sold. I packed the bass and pretty much had one foot out the door to UPS. He never came through with the Pay pal transaction. After two days I knew he was gonna bail. The guy swore he would buy the bass, then pulled out last minute stating personal issues. It happens.

I had to back out of a purchase once. Between saying OK to the deal, and moving the money to my Paypal account and sending it the next day, I had a dental bridge break- $2100 unexpected bill. Couldn't justify buying a new amp when I had to fix my teeth, so I backed out with sincere apologies. Seller seemed to understand. Sometimes, s**t happens, even if our intentions are good . . .

IMHO that's a dick move. Sorry, people shouldn't list it if they aren't sure they want to sell it, and shouldn't say they are going to buy it if they aren't ready to send the funds.

At the risk of being obvious: The impersonal nature of the Inter Webs makes it far easier to back out of a purchase than it is if meeting face-to-face. Just like it's easier to type a comment that one might be more circumspect about uttering in person.

IMO, that's why you never pass on other buyers. First one to send the money, gets the prize. Period - no exceptions. On several occasions, I would have been left holding the bag as well - if I had not implemented my strict payment policy.

No you can not leave feedback unless the transaction is complete.
On ebay when you win the auction the transaction is complete and if one person flakes you can leave negative feedback.
We need a system here that lets you contact a Mod and show him the PM's and allow the burned person leave negative feedback for the flake.

No, I had a couple almost trades fall through. But never a last minute pull out. So far I havn't sold a really big item here, even the ones I have listed I sold them on CL.

One guitar a guy emailed me for a possible trade, I asked for details on the Guitar he was was looking to trade with, I liked so I said sure I'm game if you are. He was less than sure so the trade was on hold, but it was never firm to begin with. Ended up trading with someone else, didn't miss anything waiting on him.

Another trade I was the hold up. One of our TB'ers here was looking to ship an amp, I offered a trade, he decided to keep the listed item, but offered me something different, we talked a little, he was willing to go, but I decided not to pull the trigger. No harm no foul, no long drawn out issues.

But I have never had a "Done Deal" fall through at the last moment.

Yea but I have respect for the TB community, most deals are nice clean cut deals, so I like the non "Craigslist" people here, that's why I sell and buy here- I'm just gonna start looking at FB like eBay, less than 10, no reply, rather not f with that again-

What I hate is when a seller lists an item at a specific price (not listed as "or best offer") and I offer the full asking price then receive a PM back from the seller stating he's got a better offer. Happened to me twice on TB so far. Sucks, and no way to leave feedback. Interesting thing is, last time I brought the issue up on TB about half the posters thought it was perfectly legit to do it.

IMHO this is not OK and I would report it to the moderators. This isn't Ebay and the reason for forcing sellers to list a price is to discourage bidding.

So someone offered the seller MORE than he was asking for?
Where are buyers like that when I'm selling stuff?

I think he was trying to milk more out of you. That's not cool.
