what?fill it up with water, a dash of salt (boils faster) and put the strings in.

what?
salt corrodes the metal and is part of what you're trying to get rid of!
you're not making spaghetti here![]()
Maybe he's a TB member?![]()
remember a couple years ago olive garden got called out and embarrassed by one of their corporate stockholders or some such? You're right ... I got confused ... salt for pastas ... clear water for strings.

they'd made a top-down decision to no longer salt the water for boiling their pasta just because it made the pots and pans last longer without corroding, saving a few dollers over time and making their faux-italian food even lamer and blander than before.
Anybody know what kind of cloth to use when just giving the strings a wipe down after playing I use a microfiber cloth on my basses after playing but its just a cheap one(no way am I gonna pay $15 for a guitar cleaning one that would basically be the same ) and I'm worried it will leave fluff on the strings
FWIW, I hate the sound of new round wounds, and I hate the sound of dead round wounds. For my preference a new set will hit a sweet spot somewhere around 2 or 3 days after they're on the bass, and are too dull after about 4 weeks. I use denatured alcohol to clean the strings for my round wound bass. I alternate between two sets - one on the bass, one in the alcohol - and then swap about every month. What I really like about it is the strings fresh out of the alcohol do not sound new, they sound like they do at that 2 day sweet spot I mentioned. I'm usually able to swap back and forth 3 or 4 times for each set until physical damage to the strings makes them useless. I don't do it to be a cheapskate, I do it because they sound exactly the way I like after a soaking.
but can take away from the aesthetic of a freshly cleaned bass!
What... no "the gunk keeps the funk"ers on today?!
Snake oil!!? That's it I'm against the harming of snakes, even if they make my Elixers last a year or more! I guess I won't be using Elixers again!6. avoid coated, elixir, exp whatever. Whatever people say, I think they're snake oil
I use stainless roundwounds for funk. Before I do a gig I boil my strings in water and vinegar about as long as boiling an egg. They sound like new for the gig.
Caveat: A new set sounds new for weeks; a boiled set only sounds new again for days.
