Double Bass Cleveland Orchestra Audition

Even though TCO held bass auditions, it doesn't mean they'll hire a finalist...
What I heard was that one of the bassists in the section would be retiring in the coming year and that although the spot didn't NEED to be filled, TCO was looking for an appropriate replacement.

Plus, who knows how Alex Hanna or Charlie Nilles played in the final round other than the committee? Maybe they both had unimpressive final rounds?

Well these no hire situations are becoming the rule rather than the exception, and it's not for lack of qualified players, because that pool only continues to grow.

It's pretty simple, they couldn't agree on an audition winner, so they're having re auditions. I wouldn't call it what they were hoping for, it's just what happened.
