Cliff Burton's Orion intro sound

I have always been wondering how he made that incredible intro sound on Orion.

There is obviously phaser or flanger and distortion with some sort of ambient pedal. I'm also guessing

Taurus synth bass pedal sound was added over his bass intro as well

Can anybody share your thoughts?

I always though that was a Hammond organ.

I'm only hearing some kind of stereo phaser and some kind of distortion, but it's so distorted that there could be any number of other subtle things in there behind the distortion. I can't even tell what's producing the original signal.
