a 15 watt amp is kinda hard to make a bass sound good threw, how many ladies are going to see you playing if your using a practice amp, i guess you could invite them to your bedroom practice;)

Basically get a p bass, its good for punk rips into funk and its sound is clean and big, no single coil hum.
 
I would go a P over a J, but that is more personal preference. Just as a note, you will probably be able to get more of a 'range' of tone from a J bass rather than a P. However if you want something simple that just works, the P is better.
