Wow, this is incredibly short sighted with all the stories on here about basses in schools changing peoples lives. Personally, I can't think of a better place for it to be. Just the thought of some kid banging out Iron Man or Smoke on the Water (played totally incorrectly) on that is so cool.
That's what they were designed for. I bought my SB-2 for two reasons: 1) to help out a friend who needed the money for his kid's tuition and 2) to own a bass that Leo Fender had actually touched.
That said, it's not like I paid a fortune for it. It's not worth all that and it's certainly not an object that should be worshipped. It's meant to be played.
I don't play mine. I need to restring it, set it up to my liking, etc. But if I ever sell it, it's not like that Leo provenance makes it worth a whole lot. It doesn't. It's not an investment, it's a bass guitar. People should use them to make music.
