Ok lol...First off I AM NOT PLAYING THE PIAN.Why would i be on this forum then?I am playing in the store.

And I was just only trying to get suggestions I AM GOING TO WEAR THE SHIRT AND TIE OR a jacket just wear it nice be it play 12 bars blue riff or one note.I think it may be partially my fault for not explaining fully in my first post I dunno whatever im going to get my stuff on friday and its on saturday soI got it I think it was actually a stupid post.Lol

thanks anyways Later!

As previously stated, wear the tie. The suggestion regarding an older female signing off is an excellent one.

I recall when I had some piano trio gigs back in the days when ketchup sandwiches were on the menu and laundry was really not a priority. The leader told me to quit wearing the beat sweater I had worn to two gigs in a row. It really was the nicest thing i had at the time. The gig was at the Chautauqua Institution, and I parked my 20 year old Subaru next to a Bentley that day. Anyway, I got my mom to take me shopping and kept the gig.

Also, pay more attention in English class. There are foreigners on this board with better writing. You may think it's not worth the effort, but it conveys a lack of self-respect and laziness. I say this not to give you hard time; I really thought it worth pointing out. Perfection isn't necessary, but c'mon...

I'm not completely bustin' on you, but have you seen some of the mangled English here from native English speakers? This guy is a frickin' English Professor compared to some here. I just try to not spell words wrong. ;)

Suck it up and wear the shirt and tie. I do for the heck of it all the time. If you kind of want to do your own thing, instead of dress pants get a pair of black Dickies.
Were it appropriate I'd suggest a trip to a Hot Topic for one. I got a really cool black tie there with a skull and crossbones. However, for something like playing in a piano store thats not appropriate.

I'm 16, and get to wear a tie once a week, plus hockey games(50-60 a season) during the school year. I rather like wearing a tie, it makes me feel like I'm better than the people that aren't wearing them :p

PS. You should see the look on some peoples faces when 20 16 year olds walk into Mcdonalds with ties one :bassist:

anyone of any age can wear a tie and a shirt without looking bad.

I beg to differ.

the only other option besides a tie, slack and a botton down collar-less shirt. You can't wear a tie with a collar-less shirt but they look nice. But alot of the bass players ariound here tend to wear black slack, short sleeve black button-down black shirt, and as flashy a tie as they can find. And by flashy I mean the tie is usually louder than their bass. I THINK IT SUCKS. I personally like to wear my balck Versace jeans, My shined-up Tanker boots and my black long-sleeve D&G pacthed-up shirt. I get more chicks like that. It also helps if you can play your bass. Good clothes look better on-stage than T-shirt & jeans. It also depends on the kind of music you play, If you dressed like I do in a metal band the crowd would probably kill you.
PS: i'm not rich I just spend all my extra money to look like I am. I figure "if you want to make the big money you have to play, AND look like you worth it."

I get a lot of "society gigs" (playing for rich people who don't listen to the band) and gigs for various university-affiliated parties/functions. I'm almost always told to wear a tie. I choose from my collection of five bow-ties.

Bow-ties:
A) Don't get in the way of your playing

B) Look sharp and individual

C) Entice women to try and "fix" them or "straighten" them

plus they're classy as hell.

I actually played a show when I was 15 in 1982 (it was a heavy metal set. We actually all decided to wear shirts and ties just to look different. If you wear a dark colored shirt and tie it will actually make you look older and more polished. Just make sure you wear a tie clip so the thing doesn't flop in front of your strings.
Then sit up strait, play your bass, and stop your damn whining.
Just kidding...good luck.
