– I was waiting for that question, ha ha! The gloves are soon better known than me… It’s not because of allergy or any such problems. I tried it once because I wanted a sound that was softer, bigger, smoother. It wasn’t easy to start playing with gloves, but now I’m used to it, and I like the sound.

OT but, it's good to see Etienne Mbappé mentioned, even if for the gloves.
IMO he's one of the pioneers in the African/fusion world. The first Ultramarine record, "De", is a "how to" for that stuff. I was lucky to see him w/Salif in the early 90's I guess, before I knew who he was, and that was one of the most vital shows I have ever seen.
We now bring you back to your regular scheduled program...

I keep gloves in the cases of many of my most frequently gigged basses in case I find myself in a colder than normal room (and of course for outdoor gigs)...

However my loves are fingerless. I call them my "homeless" gloves.

But I can't read a discussion about playing with gloves on without thinking about Etienne Mbappé.

Here's a guy with serous chops, tone and respect, and it's kinda cool how he plays with gloves on.

Not wanting to get off subject and i tried it with a glove but it was pretty bad...HAHA! i cant pull it off..

i am doin these videos of the songs from our latest record. (Spanish as you will quickly hear) HA! When we travel we usually do clinics during the day and then a concert at night. Alot of the events have a high number of church musicians that attend. They have been asking me to record a clip of the songs we do so they can see what im playing and my positions. Also, its another excuse for me to record this Amazing LG5. Its got enough snap for me but still maintains its killer tone.


In case anyone is wondering. This is the song that comes before the other solo vid i posted up a while back. I record into Cubase and sync the vid later.

Great playing man! Now can you do the same video with an LM:hiding:;). What were your settings on the LG? I thought I saw you check the bass and treble full clockwise.

I like your tone... especially where you start to dig in at about 1:42 or so... My LG sounds very similar.. yours recorded so nice in that track... its nice to hear that.. nice playing too.
I dig the LG when you dig in they have a full growl without too much scoop.

+1 The more the DR Lo Rider Nickels break in on mine, the more I'm liking that bass. After a few months, they just growl and punch, and as the bass and treble reduce over time, that mid complexity just sings! Totally cool. I'll keep the LM loaded with relatively new Hi Beams, but old nickels just sing on the LG:bassist:

By the way guys, TB'er MAISKESO - my friend Ed, just got himself an LG5 Classic Supreme - Inca Silver & black pickguard w/ matching headstock and the sister DN board to Miko's spalted LG5 from NAMM w/ binding and dots. A TB'er from Australia originally bought the bass but traded it in for a new build.

For a while there I thought the LG wasn't my thing, the 70's style spoke to me more and they still do but after playing Paul Turner's and Ed's new LG5 and now watching Mike's video... I think I will just bite sooner than later. The bad part is all 3 of these LG's are Classic Supremes... Yikes. :eek:

Saluki...my settings were

(before my change)
Tone about 25%
Bass 10%
Treble 15%

after change
Tone was bout 35%
Bass 15%
Treble 20%

none of my moves were drastic.
Only reason I moved it was for that slap line. I just never moved it back. Haha
on the record I actually did it very Marcus sounding but te mix engineer went old school on it. Kind of dark and muffled. I didn't like it at first as it was SO different. But it grew on me.

These are Elixir strings. It's what we use for all of our instruments. Our singer is sponsored by them. I didn't like when I frat tried them but they break in very nicely. And they last FOREVER. as much as we play can go through a set in a couple of days.
These have lasted me like 4months. :-O
