Mike - thanks for that. They sound superb, not a bit like when I tried them some time ago!
I was only using TI Flats then, so perhaps the contrast was too much and I might not stick the TI's straight back on now! as has already been said, 10/10 playing and tone - it's all about knowing when to stick in the tricky bits, and when to keep it just solid really isn't it?
And you've got it just right.

none of my moves were drastic.
Only reason I moved it was for that slap line. I just never moved it back. Haha
on the record I actually did it very Marcus sounding but te mix engineer went old school on it. Kind of dark and muffled. I didn't like it at first as it was SO different. But it grew on me.

These are Elixir strings. It's what we use for all of our instruments. Our singer is sponsored by them. I didn't like when I frat tried them but they break in very nicely. And they last FOREVER. as much as we play can go through a set in a couple of days.
These have lasted me like 4months. :-O

Yeow! The thing is, the longer the song went on, the more I was pulled into it. VERY nice job. And thanks for the playing details. I had no idea Elixers sounded like this. We get 'em for guitars, but I've never tried them for bass. Looks like I may have to give 'em a run.

@Tom..Sometimes in the studio the producers are like HEY!! i dont need anything extra..:bawl: haha..So this time that WE got to produce our parts..the singer was like...DO YOUR THING BRO! haha..so we had fun with it..while trying not to kill the song...:D I didnt like the strings at first..but once I break them in.. THEY WORK FOR ME! Plus...FREE NEVER HURT ANYBODY! :hyper::hyper:


@ DJ5...Yeah man..its about having a good balance. When i was NAMM i didnt even wanna play a bass. There were so many killer players out there. Id rather stick to the groove stuff and throw in a few lines than be expected to WOW you for 5 minutes. I wish i could but i have yet to pay my bills from it. HAHA! But as a bassist i wanna get better at it for MYSELF..

Having a family and a career put time at a significant premium, for me it's kind of the exact opposite at the moment. Picking up an AC isn't a huge deal financially but finding more then a few precious moments to practice daily is.....Not complaining at all, I'm sure there are more then a few club members on my side of the fence:bassist:

It reminds me of a funny story unrelated but so what...

A teacher I had years ago also did lots of session work in NYC. They were all sitting around in the control room as the piano player went to school in the live room. He was unbelievable and had more talent then everyone else in the building. The piano player was the only one that didn't have a family or own a home, he couldn't even fit a piano in his small studio apartment, he made the decision to stay in the studio long after the sessions ended practicing. This group of session musicians always found it ironic that the best talent among them was the one who could barely keep ontop of his bills.

In any case that story always makes me feel better about myself when I ponder the decision I've made to be more concerned with my bank account then my artistic abilities...

@ Peter...It makes total sense.

I do THIS full time. I don't have a 9-5 so the "moments" are more available for me. I have my axe in my hand 6, if not 7 days a week! Between running my recording studio, traveling, and weekly local gigs... I wish i had more time for "practicing" but my everyday use is my practice. Thank God my wife and I are 100% dedicated to our crafts. She is a spanish christian artist. So we don't have the "stability" that comes with a 9-5 but thankfully were blessed beyond measure!

Each one of our stories will be different. I think the biggest point is when our story is over....WILL WE BE HAPPY WITH IT? Sounds like You and I are well on our way..so Kudos to us!

And believe me..she's got me on strict bass rules..hahaha!

Wow, I am SO envious of your life. Living the dream. True love and serious about music and the arts. Nice.

I'm jealous of you guys... Being able to not worry bout buying gear.
I gotta refinance the house and sell the dogs to get another AC.. LOL. Jk I don't have dogs..

I won't lie the dream gets un dreamy real quick but I guess that's where passion kicks in and reignites the dream. Plus In the market that we are in...we are very involved with the youth. More than leaving them with an awe inspiring performance..(which we obiously shoot for every night) We can share with them about out experiences and simply motivate them to always give excellence.

That's why what we do is more than just music. It's trying to leave a lasting impression with just being down to earth AND ALWAYS BE ACCESSIBLE. that's means alot to me.!!

When we write to guys like Adam Nitti or Miko or anyone who is on another level than we are...and they respond promptly and are just REAL..that's a cool feeling!!

Like Vic I am envious! Although I have no complaints about the way things have turned out thus far.

A little back story....I graduated with a music degree and studied mostly classical music and the double bass. The idea of following the lead of others a few years ahead of me, $25,000 a year for graduate school and 12 hours or practicing minimum, was not so appealing at the time. With the hope of some small time orchestra in the middle of no where. That's at least how I felt about it back then.

I sold my double bass, paid off some bills, got married, bought a condo and got a "real job". About 10 years later I picked the electric up and 3 years ago the double bass. I've got a pretty good steady gig on the electric, some subbing and some pit work. The upright is a little slower, just turning the corner on being an ok jazz bassist with a small hack quartet and am hoping to get some classical chops back.

I am very lucky that my wife and work have been very supportive and allow me the flexibility to satisfy my indulgences....
