I am maple free at the moment. I sold my Sadowsky UV70 in anticipation of the LM5 arrival. Not having a maple fingerboard is killing me. I went to the local GC during lunch and hacked away at a Fender for a good half hour, I'm feeling a little better now.

haha that's hilarious....and I could definitely just rock rosewood for the rest of my life....hope your bass shows up soon dude!

exactly.. there are many different colors on any sonic palette to choose from.. some like dark some like bright... some a little of each... to me all basses sound good though...my head is if it grooves its cool, if not, doesn't matter how cool the tone is...

I guess it boils down to the the old saying its in your hands statement... wish we could think of something else to call it because that is so over used here on TB.. but it is what it is.

Can't recall if it was in this thread, but he did a tropical gig where he played a supplied bass and yep, it was a P. I gave him endless crap about "converting" and stuff (which of course he deflected).

Anyway, don't read too much into his comment... it really was just kiddin' around and not meaning to seriously dis the P bass or its appropriate applications. P vs J is like Ford vs Chevy. You gotta' be able to throw some tongue-in-cheek jabs back and forth or it's just no fun anymore. :)

Why am I posting this? Because I figure Ken's already on the road and off TB until next week. He's headed out to a place for the weekend that I don't think he has internet access at, and I didn't want this to fester into more than it needed to be before he had a chance to reply (again).

It's trans butterscotch Blonde. (you can see it hand writen in the neck pocket).

Jimmy also wanted me to mention that it is his original body size which is slightly bigger than a vintage 4 string but not as big as what he had at NAMM.

I put on a set of DR low rider stainless on my LG5 and they sound great. I would tend to describe them as between Hi Beams and Jimmy's nickels. They have the bight of nickels and the brightness of hi Beams, probably closer to hi beams then nickels.

It is also worth mentioning that my LG5 has an old growth honduran board which is "brighter" and more different then most peoples experience with an LG with either an indian or DN board.

Mine is older Indian RW, but is also a fairly bright sound for RW, but I also really really like it. It's still got that same sweetness up high, but just overall a bit brighter sounding... perfect for me, and yeah, works great with SS strings (my faves) as well.
